audio codec errors and hanging at boot up...

I know this has been discussed but I am unable to find the thread.

I continue to experience routine, yet infrequent "audio codec error" messages.

B16 4K 16:9 RC28 23.98 to CF.

I have experienced this both when shooting sound and more recently without sound.

It happened about three times on the last shoot (over 14hrs).

The "hang up" on booting is still occurring on a regular basis.

I know how to work around the "hang on boot up", but I want a fix.

When you are not recording audio make sure the audio recording option is de-selected. Hope that works for you.

As for "hang on boot up" get used to it (and I say that very humbly). I usually connect the battery at least a minute before I turn on the RED. It helps minimize the number of boot up failures.

I also make sure the lens cap is on when I boot up after a battery change, coincidence or luck I don't know but it just works.

Probably not, but send me a P.M about your exact set up please?

And a LOG file if you can retrieve that.

And you might want to download Build 17 to see if that clears either one of these up. You can revert to Build 16 afterwards if you wish.

First time I used to record sound on my Red, my sound guy used channel one and two. No problems till we used my third CF card, Audio codec error at the first start, disabled audio, camera/CF card worked fine. Changed the card twice for another one recording sound; problem solved. Used the "faulty" card, problem reoccured instantly. Did not use the card again when recording audio. Changed to the drive, problem reoccured instantly, so it looks like a specific drive/CF card issue ? Is this an issue which will be resolved ? I get the idea this is a rather general occuring problem with lost of cameras and users . Latest build 17, old audio board.

Hi Dylan,

I have followed your concerns about the boot up issue for some time. It was my one great fear before I bought the camera.

However, just as point of reference for you and what I think you can reasonably expect, I have never experienced a single boot up problem with my Red since I got in October last year.

Hope you get the problem fixed.
