  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC QUAD BATTERY MODULE

Hi Tim . understand ;)

I´ve 2 Redvolt Packs (8 Batteries) laying arround here and another 2 will come hopefully next week with the camera, as well as 3 travel chargers, because i was counting on the quad module from day one :)
I also have the Red Shoulder Pad here, and i think as soon as the quad module will arrive, this likely will stay on my camera 95% of its time.

Manuel

agreed! I cant imagine taking it off. As much as the SMALL FORM FACTOR is cool. It feels more like a Cine Camera with that module on there - balance is great - we are all curious how long this thing will get with ALL the modules attached
it may go from the smallest cine camera to the longest!

Why Tim gets the proto goodies to play with:

Seems Tim has a a taste for RED cameras and Red Bull

this is really cool and all, and thanks to Jarred and to Tim for sharing this glimpse into the future.

I have to say, though, that we all suffer from a little bit of PTSD from the RED ONE start time.

My EPIC starts up so fast that changing out the battery isn't a big deal anymore.

The trick has been finding a good mounting solution to recycle my RED bricks. I am very happy with their run time. Mounting them without awkward rigging has been the puzzle to solve, and I have a very cheap and clean solution now, which I'll post in another thread. I think a lot of people will like it, as opposed to spending a lot of money on a a whole new expensive new battery system.

this is a fantastic innovation for those that can afford the whole set-up but for those of us content to re-use our bricks until they die, I have another option that I'm enjoying very much.

Im telling you all right now... you will not appreciate how GENIUS modules are until you start attaching them for the first time... All that WIRE GACK... is reduced to elegant pins and connectors. Freaking awesome!

Pure genius indeed! Going redvolts is the way to go. No cables, modular, lighter, no having to mount bricks on rods or with some plate stuck somewhere. I got 10x redvolts and now just need that module!

Not having to yell at the director that he needs to cut his perfect take because of a battery change can make it all worth it.. sometimes even 12 seconds is too long :)

uh 12 seconds?... mine boots in 8 consistently and occasionally in 10.. but never 12 whole seconds jarred! :P

@ Meryem... to each their own. The FACT that RED enabled RED ONE acks to work with EPIC at all shows how much they care about their customers... and their budgets! Canon does the same thing... NOT!

not as bad as 90+ seconds used to be...

like I said, this is awesome, I think being able to run continuously with a set-up this slick is a breakthrough.

I just know that I'm not alone trying to figure out how to intelligently configure my EPIC to re-use my ELEVEN Red bricks! (a considerable investment in its own right...) besides Coollights, that is...

Well, I never power down now either as I have the Bebob Rouge 120, which gives us exactly that, 120 seconds to swap battery, problem was that even that some times is not in off,
as the lights flashing RED will not bee seen and BAM camera is off...

Finally with the REDVOLTS no longer a problem... REDVOLT in the Handle Grip... V-Lock battery on the Bebob 120... and Hot swap at will... Never had to power off during takes again...

HOwever been finally able to have the Quad Pro Battery Module on board and Hot swap those babies at will, and also have a much better balanced camera with no dangling cables... A PLUS... BIG TIME!!

Does any one know if the battery module can be put at the end of all modules or has it to be attached right behind the adapter module?
Just asking for better weight position for shoulder work (with clutch).

Once NDA is ok, weight informations would be cool for the battery module!

Thanks

Pat

I have done and thank RED immensely for the following:

Shooting long interviews with a REDVolt in my side handle and a REDBrick on the 2B-1B battery quick plate.

Interviews run long shooting all day and at some point someone isn't paying attention and the REDBrick dies.

EPIC auto switches to REDVolt and it's noticed that the camera has switched to side handle REDVolt power.

We know that because the REDBricks show as DC voltage amount and REDVolts show in percentage left of battery.

We pull dead Brick and pop on new REDBrick, camera immediately auto switches back to REDBrick power.

All of this while camera is Rolling AND Recording without a hiccup in TC or file and the files have transcoded and functioned properly.

That alone is an incredible suicide setup in the event someone is asleep at the wheel which can happen or even equip failure which can happen of course.

Thanks RED for thinking ahead.

I believe quad module is included. And that custom shoulder mount has a name: "clutch" :)

Damn that's a sexy picture.

Heh heh I should let you guys test stuff more often.. this is great. Good job Tim.

Dude, you should offer this as a standard Epic kit. Looking at the above pic in post #74 . . . it just looks balanced and right. You could then send that kit to me for "testing"

Heh heh sorry... That's mine. :)

I'd love to man, email me anytime. Remember I did good beta testing for you in 07/08 :-)

Btw, that shoulder mount with the batt module looks awesome! I currently have the ET Hybrid...will the support pegs for the shoulder piece bolt into the hybrid?
