  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic Playback

Wow .. I was just asking a simple question ages ago and it has blown out to all of this!



I am recording to a clam shell via a decimator 2 (composite) and playing that back.

I would rather have 720P output than playback at the moment so I can use my wireless CAMWAVE again.

But on a postive/ negative note.... I love the image quality from the EPIC i have, its great. Problem now is that I do a lot of 2 camera shoots and I have a stage 3.5 RED MX.

When shooting side by side there is a definate difference in image quality... And that is the EPIC has much better skin tonal range and the picture looks overall better, but hey
that should probably be on another thread.
 
Mate don't say sorry to me, i am not pointing the finger at anyone. I am just talking in general.

It is easy to recreate what I am talking about though. We shoot 2 cameras on the same subject all of the time. IE talking head testimonial, one camera wide and one tight.

2 Red ones are great. 1 REd and 1 epic there is a slight difference. Nothing i cannot fix in Resolve anyway, all it means is I have to upgrade the RED also to have 2 EPICS!

Mark do you have your Samurai yet? I am still waiting for mine to turn up.. Is it anygood?

Yes it does! It is the BON D17

Sometimes the monitor does not see the signal from the camera, I just reboot the camera and most often the monitor picks up the signal.
 
Speak to the guys at Videocraft. I have one on order and it apparently will arrive in the next few weeks, I have heard this before so I am not holding my breath.

I just thought I heard someone saying that Mark had one, and I am hoping it works straight out of the box with my Epic.

I didn't know they had released it yet! i emailed them a week ago and they said not yet... ? mmm. I'm very keen to get them.
If they could record on ROLL like the Kipro does, I'd be a happy happy man. but can live with it if they don't. Same goes with the Kipro.. if they could put a LED monitor on the side of it, it would be perfect... Imagine if the Samurai and the Kipro had a baby!... it would be like super Video assist!
 
I think emotions are running high as we race towards the finish line here. Mark for the record, I knew something was fishy when I saw YOU make that post, but without any of the customary "smilies" letting people know you are joking, it was hard to figure out where you were coming from. I would imagine that RED is getting even less sleep than usual as they barrel ass to the 29th. This is of course assuming they even sleep at all.

You own an Epic M.. I'm sure this alone will buy you a few "get out of jail free" cards. But sadly.. I think you just used one! :)

I understood what you meant Mark.

...just a bit of hyperbole to express how you would feel if your camera were to lock up on set.

It just goes to show that you can build up trust and report with a good friend/S.O. and still say something once in a while that gets under their skin.


Only those of us that read the forum every day know what a big fan you are of RED and EPIC.

Hence, your comment could be taken as FUD by someone who didn't know better (even if accidental).


I can totally see both points of view.
