  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"ASP Biotopia" single from 3h concert shoot released, 10 RED camera perspectives

Hi All,

we are proud to announce that the DVD and BluRay masters for our 3h concert shoot, 10 different RED camera perspectives, are now finished and going to be released to market.

As a first impression watch one of the songs freely on YouTubeHD:

The concert was shot with 10 RED camera perspectives, one break, so we had 20 times ~1.5 hours RED clips. Editing was done with Final Cut Pro, then we transcoded only selected frames via internal tools into CineForm codec, based on the FCP XML and EDL output.

Grading was performed on SpeedGradeDI with CineForm in 2K and sometimes 4K (when we zoomed into the material).

The workflow was pretty fluent.

thanks for the honors. I'll spread the word to the colorists Thomas Maier (mainly) and Frank Vogt (some) :)

Yep, we were pretty pleased about the blacks, as we shot "available light" and had to push the R3D material pretty to the limits. It shows really whats still "in" the material, even in such "worse" shooting conditions, shooting in a dark chirch, black clothed people... We love that camera!

I wonder how good the black would look like if we can encode such footage at some day on for RED RAY. Thats what we are really waiting for, post-wise.

Anyone had a look at the stop motion stuff too?
I know its not (yet) shot with RED cameras, but was a lot of fun to produce.

Fantastic work. It's stunningly beautiful. The colour choices for the lights work so well, and the rim lighting adds so much.

I'm definitely going to look into this band. The music stuck with me long after I walked away from the computer.

There must have been more than one take of "Denn ich bin der Meister", correct? I noticed a continuity error at 2:30, as the hand in which the violinist is holding her instrument suddenly switches. If it was multiple takes cut together, then even more kudos to the editor, as that just makes things more difficult!
 
Hi Stephen,

it was two concerts (day after day) cut together, in fact. And - the worsed thing of all - the light operator sometimes changed from e.g red to green backgrounds between the two concerts, which needed to be corrected in grading. That was coloring, not grading, in some takes. So kudos for this work to Thomas Maier!

And now I guess I need to kick ass the editor for letting that slip through :) Thomas Klieber....

Jim, would something like this (2K of course) be possible with Scarlet? I hope so.



one note, though : I don't understand German language so I just hope we are not listening to some "improper" songs. Brudern are brothers, Zauberer could mean "magic, magician" but Sauber is Clean (sauberer are "cleaner"). Somebody please figure this out before we propagate... something... wrong. You know, something like Beetles and Beatles with the same pronounciation.

He matched the lead singer very well, which is exactly what he should have done. I only noticed it because I watched it over and over again.

I spent five months in Germany a few years back, so I'll see how much of it comes back to me. I really liked the video for "ME" but I think the singer's voice is much stronger in German, so that's even more reason for me to brush up!

Hi Lubomir,

even when this kind of music is surely not the typical german "folk songs" and the outfit of the band may be polarizing, the lyrics aren't something bad, I can assure you. Quite the opposite!

Honestly, its not may favourite style of music too, but the lyrics are something I got used to listen too, during the productions we did for them :) There is far more "depth" in them than in many more popular "folk" or "pop" songs.

Btw, I would expect Scarlet to do this kind of shooting jobs even better, as it is announced to have a more sensitive sensor, so low light situations should come out pretty fine. We will all see when they finally release it :)

Hi Frank,

I had unfortunately missed it myself (we had some failing devices due to failing air condition that hot day in both our tech rooms, and as I was forced to fix some stuff in that time to keep the balls rolling).

Anyway, it something that looks pretty nice on the large screen. Lucky me I have a home theater with 4.4m screen :), but unfortunatly not an as good sound system as FunDeMental has installed... (not yet, hehe).

I hope we will see us next time, again,
