  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC officially out of Backorder

Fantastic news - congratulations - so the deadline you have hit was the out of backorder deadline. Now presumably this will start to free up resources to deliver that pipeline of awsomeness that Jim alluded to....

Congratulations and thank you all for creating a camera that inspires me to shoot. I've never owned a camera that produced such magnificent pictures as the Epic. Out of this world impressive. I got my delivery and i still haven't fully introduced my camera in the forums. I'm working on a video for that, but before this I really would like to thank you all for making this "most important of inventions" get to where it is today: simply stunning pictures I'm getting from it- and I'm still scratching the surface of its power!! I was antecipating this camera so much... It cost me twice the price of my car, and I was building an impossible hype for it. Normally when I get excited and hyped about something I get disappointed. Not with the Epic. Its just the single best motion picture capturing device I've ever used. I'm really, really glad I bought this revolutionary camera. Just to get an idea: I went with it in its smallest form factor configuration, only using redvolts into Macau's old city streets. It was completely non intrusive, people didn't seem to mind the camera and the pictures coming out of it, with people acting naturaly, where just stunning- and that with terrible, overcast weather. I will try to edit this as soon as end of this week to introduce my Epic X. But its just mind blowing.

Congratulations, Red team, Jim, Jarred, Brent, Graeme, Rob, everyone at the red team for this milestone. Keep going strong, full of passion and leading us to places we never dreamt possible!

I tip my hat to you guys. Congratulations!

Please don't let the occasional grumbling dampen things. This is a worthy time to celebrate and recognize how far you've come. :)

Congratulations, RED...truly, I am in awe of your achievements.

RED didn't just build your camera - they built out entire new manufacturing facilities and new manufacturing systems which are putting hundreds, soon thousands, of Americans to work on a product that keeps wealth in our nation, instead of allowing it to be siphoned it elsewhere. They are working like Tasmanian devils to deliver this stuff.

There are times when it's good to lay down your gripe or your bitch and just congratulate the RED Army for working their asses off to design and build a future. I have a feeling we ain't seen nothin' yet.

Not to split hairs but it is pretty tricky to *power* your camera beyond the reach of an extension cord without a side-handle or quad volt adapter. Unless you are willing to invest $1,000 in a third party battery system (V-Mount/AB) while waiting. REDmote definitely a 'accessory' though and I would agree with you there.

Out of back-order is great news. Especially if some tragedy were ever to befall my camera and I need insurance to buy a replacement. I was a wee bit nervous about a potential wait should it get dropped or stolen.

RED BATTERY QUICKPLATE --> 2B to 1B --> Go shoot and be happy. You can put it on a universal mount and get some extra length. Take you camera out and play with it. It's amazing the many different configuration you can make.

.

Really, why on earth would you define the RedMote as an accessory? Its the primary control unit for the camera, No?
What am I missing?
Sure the TouchLCD has touch functions but its a monitor. I don't want to be touching the screen I'm trying to compose the shot or focus with... all those finger prints drive me mad. Besides I want a EVF and you can't have both.

I thought the RedMote is the main controller of the camera, used to setup and control the camera wirelessly... Isn't that the point of its function and design.
Therefore I would not call the RedMote an accessory. Its a necessity to setup and control the camera.

Or is Red saying we have to have the TouchLCD to have a working camera? a camera we can control and setup and work with?
I'm not trying to be a pain as I just plan to run the camera without the TouchLCD or Side Handle and will be relying on the RedMote for all my camera control and setup functions. Plus I don't plan to use RedVolts and will be using a Red Backpack Quick Plate type setup with Anton Bauer batteries which would be mounted on the back of the camera so the RedMote will always work in wireless mode even though it will be on the side of the camera using Brook's Shuttle. And I'll use the RedMote to remote start/stop the camera when on a jib, crane or steadicam.

Do I have to change my thinking and I have to use the TouchLCD?
What if I want to use a EVF instead of a LCD? or what if I want both?

Red please correct my thinking.

Let me help. SIDE HANDLE AND EVF... Or, TOUCH LCD, or RED MOTE and EVF or LCD... Later buy Pro IO and have both, or Use HD/SDI and TOUCH or HD/SDI for and LCD/evf and and LCD and RED MOTE ... C'Mon man it's pretty easy unless you have never shot before which clearly you have.

Just trying to get word from RED that the RedMote can control the camera reliably without needing the TouchLCD or Side Handle.
Not having a TouchLCD or Side Handle, The RedMote is a crucial part and not an accessory, No?

The RedMote is a crucial part and not an accessory, No?

Only crucial if you don't want to use the LCD. But Jarred said LCDs were also out of backorder. Therefore at least one control interface is available on demand. I have no intent to buy a redmote and haven't had any trouble using the camera with the touch-screen.

RED BATTERY QUICKPLATE --> 2B to 1B --> Go shoot and be happy.

But then you're committing to a second and otherwise incompatible set of batteries. Which I agree... I love my IDX battery system and am happy to do so but if you want to go REDVolt exclusive you need either a Sidehandle or Quad Adapter. For everyone buying an Epic or Scarlet package your bundled batteries aren't useful until you get a side-handle or quad adapter. Besides the added inconvenience of carrying two different and incompatible battery systems it also means paying $1k to power your camera. Which you might only intend to do until your side-handle or quad adapter arrives. Which is a big investment for a couple weeks. I would say though that REDVolts aren't a good primary power system and would highly recommend doing it anyway.

If you are on RedUser you know how every part works. Stop this.

I have to disagree. Having used every accessory there is it is MHO that the touch screen is the primary controller for the camera. You don't touch it while rolling and the finger prints really aren't an issue unless you eating candy bars while shooting. I love tHe LCD and don't use the Redmote much. The redmote will need to be charged fairly often if it is attached to the side, the LCD always works as long as you have batteries. The big menus on the LCD are much easier to work with than having you eye in the EVF while fiddling with the redmote. My 2 cents

I'm saying using the camera without a TouchLCD or Side Handle... the RedMote is pretty vital in controlling the camera.
Sure you can use a TouchLCD or Side Handle but what if you don't want to and want to only use the RedMote to control the camera, after all that is its prime function... No?

If you shoot for any extended timeframe which any DP does, you will not just rely on RedVolt unless you have a ton of them. What you are saying doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I am crazy but at best you can get what, 120 out of 4 Volts until the XL's come out.

Wow!

My EPIC arrives tomorrow and I am really stoked but I would have had it sent to Axel if that would have helped keep the peace........Guess I just don't like friction and thick air.

Hope it all gets worked out OK.

I don't use the RedMote as much as the Side handle or Touch. And certainly not for rolling or changing settings on the fly, just not my thing.

** As Jarred just stated, it's preference.

Must be something in the water tonight. Time to clean this thread up.

You can use just a REDMOTE.. or just the Touch screen.. or the side handle... you only NEED one. You can use them all.

Everyone has their preference...

Great news! Does coming out of backorder speed things up any on the Stage 3 front? or is it a completely different part of the company? Just wondering, Thanks.

That is so great to hear, Jarred!

A big step on a way to a historic breakthrough for one of the most innovative companies in the world.

Keep pushing!
