I've owned my MX for a year and love it. But now with the Weapon announcement I'm feeling like I need to upgrade to Dragon to be eligible for the Weapon upgrade down the road.

A few questions:
When is the latest I can upgrade to Dragon?
How long does everyone think it will be until I have to drop another sizeable chuck of cash for the upgrade from Dragon to Weapon?
Is it worth sticking with my MX then selling and just buying a Weapon when they come out?

I mainly shoot action sports so the rumoured high FPS coming with the Weapon will be a necessity. I shoot mainly with Canon photo glass too. Sorry for the 20 questions, I'm pretty new to the RED owners community and I just don't want to make any bad financial decisions.

I've compiled lots of info here:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?76-WEAPON

But I've got some answers.

1. The latest you can upgrade from Mysterium-X to Dragon appears to be approximately June 2015, though a hard date has not been set. The latest you can upgrade to Dragon from Mysterium-X and still get the early adopter discount seems to be the day before NAB 2015.

2. Weapon is the upgrade path from Dragon and Red will be selling both Dragon and Weapon side by side for some time. Based on previous upgrades you likely have a year or two to upgrade to Weapon, though again, no hard date has been set.

3. That's up to you and what makes sense for you. I have no idea when new Weapons will be for sale, but you'll have a while before that's possible. I will say for many Weapon is very much worth it.

Yeahhhhhh Phil must of seen the Weapon! He don't say nothing is WORTH it unless it really IS worth it. And from all the
write ups he's done (also being 75% responsible for me jumping to Dragon because he said it was worth it) on soooo much
from lens to the MX sensor to the Dragon write up..... Yeah I'm gonna say it's gonna be WORTH IT.

More details about the REDmag trade in would help many plan for the upgrade. Looking at a bare minimum additional $6-7K investment in media it will take to make the switch isn't trivial.

I can imagine more than a few sad faces at NAB if the trade in value for SSDs is half of what the current resale market value. In fact, if RED announced now, it would set the market and may change a few minds about upgrading to mini SSDs regardless of upgrading to Weapon or not.

If it makes you feel any better....I too recently pulled the trigger and got the Dragon Upgrade as of two weeks ago......The Dragon is just a better camera.....so I can only imagine what the weapon has in store.
