Hi Team RED

I know that the camera doesn't record yet and I can see the levels in the screen, but can you put this on top of your list of things to do please.

I can live with out playback (JUST), and with out 720P (JUST).

But having no sound increases the cost of editing and the production by having to sync everything up.

Pretty Please!!

The EPIC does record sound and has since build 1.4.6 or so. We're currently on 1.6.12 and recorded tons of audio last week. I'd suggest getting the Wooden Camera A-Box for a nice, clean input.

OK i have a problem then.

I send tone to the EPIC and I am getting audio into the camera as I had some custom cables made at LEMAC sydney which is a professional camera rental/ sales house. I have also ordered the A box but it will take awhile to get here to Australia.

The Levels look great. Now here lies the problem.

No output from the headphone socket, and when I play back the clip in red cine- x all i get is hiss.

Ideas anyone?

Adam, please get in touch with out tech support guys to help you out.

Having the same problem here and know of others that have it too. Time to call tech-support.

Yep....

Use REDCINE X 470 or higher... 478 is out now

Works for me...

Try encoding to PRO RES or AVID DNX...

Are you getting audio levels in the camera? Also I suggest you buy a wooden camera A-BOX to get audio into the unit.. At this stage the camera only records MIC level without phantom power..

I have recorded audio plenty of times now on the EPIC M and I normally use a LECTROSONIC wireless setup. I also have successfully connected my SQN mixer via MIC level.

You need to turn on the audio channels on the camera as they are set to off as default.

I've done all that before posting.
I have audio levels in the camera but really low even pushing them to the max... I will probably buy an A-Box but I'd really like to know where does this problem come from...

We had to send our camera back to RED to fix the problem....just an FYI....

Sounds like you are sending line level to the camera and not MIC level..

Did I miss something in the menu?
I see the option line/mic in the Red One menu but in the Epic-M one, I only saw the audio input/output menu...

Posted this in the other thread but thought might be helpful here as an interim solution.

I had trouble with several mics as well and could not figure out why. I am currently using an H4N mounted on a top handle and splitting the stereo output into the left and right EPIC-M input. That's the best solution for now and provides 4 channels mixed to two and simultaneous backup to SD card. That top handle shown is designed to hold a shotgun mic inside the handle with a special shock mount and that can be attached to the H4N via XLR and either mixed in with the stereo mic or directed to track 2. Can easily adjust output levels when required.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED INTERIM SOLUTION.

The camera only records at mic level. You need to use a proper external mixer to get audio into the camera. You cannot just simply plug a mic into the camera and make it work. Well not at this stage anyway.

You can use a simple 2 channel Sound devices mixer.... They don't cost much

Hi Michael, thanks a lot for your help on both threads about my issues with audio and my Epic-M.
I've made the test with my H4n and it's working great.
