  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC HDR...

The color science is now perfect.

Saying this reminds me of that something has really changed. Above is an image which is a result of some experiments with 85-series and yellow filters. The blue channel was overwhelming and I tried which way to cut it down the best. I simply couldn't get any useful grading out of this image until recently a new versions of Redcine-X changed the whole thing. The other image is a grading made recently with Redcine-X build 261.

I've been going back through a couple of recent client projects 'remastering' a number of problem shots with similar results. Totally unique experience.

I didn't think the Red community could anticipate EPIC in any more of a feverish way, but here we are: :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

Will Scarlet have the HDR-Mode? If yes, will it differ? If yes, how?

And of course the question that must be asked in every thread: WHEN?!?!
(I added a bit of drama for effect.)

I guess RED hasn't given up on the monstro alltogether...

But if they have managed to let the MX allow for harder highlights than what it does on the R1 MX, that would/could give more precission in the lowlights. (it has, no doubt)

Unless MX Epic isn't the R1 MX's even sexier sister.

But this is the day of the Epic MX!

While there will always be "more"... EPIC is a game changer.

You will likely not ever need more. You will get it because we will make it. But EPIC is the ONE that changed everything. I have seen a lot. I own over 1000 cameras. EPIC is the one that will change history. It is the one that covers everything. Size, price, performance. If I died and went (somewhere)... I will be content. EPIC will get to market.

Jim

Well, its one hell of a start for Red Camera Co. If you guys don't get a technical achievement Oscar for Epic, I will personally bitch slap Sid Ganis across the mouth (kidding! He's a great person).

Sounds like you're going to have a heck of a garage sale, now that you just made 1000 cameras obsolete and superfluous!

I'm sure Jim will be hanging on to them. you need to know the past and the present to see the future

I rarely post. But this is really something. We've had two Red One's from the get go, love them - they have become solid as a rock. I can't wait for our two Epics. When we put down our thousand bucks a few years ago we were betting on you Jim. It's paid off in spades. Thanks.

Twice the data at max is 250mb = 500mb with HDR. That's a shit load of data. Can the SSD take that info?

Jim...excuse the language, but...this is fucking awesome. Years of being a diehard RED man myself from the outside and all the crap i have had to wear because of it from colleagues, this, for me at least will give me the quiet satisfaction...and maybe the odd 'oh yeah'.

Now as your in a good mood and pumped...any chance of even giving us even a slight inkling as to when you hope EPIC will start stage 2. I know i know...no more dates but with your excitement and marketing moving into gear i little bit of a hint would be nice.

Unless it became a little bit more sensitive and noise disappeared all together.

And larger sensors, for more optical flavors.

And smaller sensors with equal performance, for deeper focus.

I'd say there will always be room for improvment, but I guess Epic will slow the need for upgrading once a year, maybe once in 5 or 10 years. A bit like ARRI's film cameras.

Dream on. That would be nice for all of us planning to purchase Epic, but technology seems to be moving faster, not slowing down. Case in point: Epic.

very exciting!

lets hope Epic ships in large numbers when it does :)
