  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC HDR...

But there is also catching up to human vision...

Then we'll have to start jacking in with neural implants to mainline the visuals captured by future iterations of Red Cams when our eyes just don't have quite enough DR or resolution.

from wiki regarding Inception... "The film was shot primarily in the anamorphic format on 35 mm film, with key sequences filmed on 65 mm, and certain other sequences in VistaVision. Nolan did not shoot any footage with IMAX cameras as he had with The Dark Knight. "We didn’t feel that we were going to be able to shoot in IMAX because of the size of the cameras because this film given that it deals with a potentially surreal area, the nature of dreams and so forth, I wanted it to be as realistic as possible. Not be bound by the scale of those IMAX cameras, even though I love the format dearly".[20] Nolan also chose not to shoot any of the film in 3-D as he believes that shooting on digital video does not offer a high enough quality image."

Given the compact size of Epic, plus 18 stops HDR 5k shooting for some pretty damn good image quality..I don't think Christopher Nolan has any reason NOT to shoot his next film on Epic with Anamorphic lenses. =)

Anyways, with Soderbergh kicking things off...I bet there will be a smashing number of hollywood features shooting with Epic next year. exciting times. =)

Congratulations Jim, Jarred, Ted and all at Team Red :-)

Really looking forward to using it! All that power in such a small form factor is just phenomenal! Nothing comes close to these specs and features and price!

Hopefully there is going to be a "Pixar Story" type film that portrays the highs and lows and highs and highs that you guys have experienced on this journey of creating the first NO compromise film replacement camera. It would be an amazing story!

All the best,

Congrats Graeme and team, casn´t wait to see that motion.

Will HDRx works in any resolution? any speed?... how can Graeme squeeze the Epic processors?

And can you imagine Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 on Epic with 18 stops of DR.

Probably you will not need the lighting any more...just because you would be able to see and shoot even "beyond the human eye"...

I have an EPIC here with me and I just don't need anything else. The "if I just had ____ (fill in the blank) is gone. I just might retire on this one and go to Fiji.

BTW... I have an EPIC with side SSD that shoots 5K at any REDCODE I want up to 250. It also shoot 120fps at 2.33:1. It weighs less than nothing. I LOVE it. I don't want anything more...

Jim

SWEET!!!!!

I will tell you that EPIC is the resolution leader. EPIC is the dynamic range leader. EPIC is the bang for buck leader. And EPIC is the size/performance leader.

Jim

I'd also throw in -

EPIC is the leader in "special" features.

Said it before and I will say it again -

EPIC WILL BE THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER CINEMA CAMERA IN THE INDUSTRY - WORLDWIDE - ALMOST OVERNIGHT

sounds awesome!

but are the vertical stripes on the chart or the results of the sensor?

LOL. Congratulations Jim... it's not only great to see this happening but also the wide acceptance and support by other companies like Adobe, AVID, The Foundry, Blackmagic, Assimilate, Quantel, Filmlight, etc. Overnight you are making any NLE/pro video software that does not support RED... irrelevant. Now that is amazing.

Hi Jim, so you nailed down resolution and dynamic range and beat the competitor.

What about the 3rd point that you told us before. "The Feel" factor, are you satisfied and please with the upcoming color science ?

My bet is that EPIC is the 1st digital camera to beat film in every way.

It is smaller than every 35mm film camera. It has more resolution. More dynamic range. The color science is now perfect. It is cheaper than a film camera. It records to a reusable SSD or CF. The results are NOW.

I have to say that EPIC achieves everything we ever set out to accomplish. Wow.

Jim

This must be Epic for you, really, congratulations on fulfilling your dreams!

Nicely done! Now for two questions-

- Will IR filters still be needed?

- When will stage 2 start shipping?

I'm dying to get my hands on this ...

Certainly the only camera *I* am ever going to want or need. Exciting stuff!

I am getting a little nervous with a hard purchasing deadline approaching. I'm not going to annoy you by asking for a date. Personally, I could wait for another year for a camera this game changing. Unfortunately I *have* to purchase something before our facility is finished.

I asked this earlier during the Q&A thread and all I ask now is whether your "No problem" still stands. If so, no date necessary and I'll keep waiting happily :)

Current RED One owner and submitted for stage 2!

Just broke ground on our new facility doing live/studio and really hoping to utilize as many as 12 Epics. I know to ask for release dates are unrealistic. However, being on a deadline with our facility slated to be finished around Feb/Mar of next year is it realistic for us to plan on getting that many Epics?
No problem.

Jim
