Hey guys,

I've updated to BETA version 5.2.9 the day it came out and today, I wanted to go through and see the features and learn them. Unfortunatly, I can't find a list anywhere of the new features listed (IE- ADDED Burst mode, Added red gamma 4) All I can find on the red website is the list for 5.2.11

Phil, I've seen this on the new update "SSD fragmentation detection". What does this mean? It worries me because every card I use, brings up a message and says, "this SSD has been fragmented. Please format the card". is it RED's way of saying that there is media on it with out me looking at the percentage sign or is it something to worry about? also what is this exposure assist and how do I use it? Is it more like dslr's where you tell the camera to expose over or under or is it something else?

I have a sneaky suspicion that this was implemented because Dragon shooters were having issues rolling a few seconds at high frame rates and there would occasionally be a Data Integrity Error and the camera would shutdown. Sad face.

However, since this was implemented I noticed when inserting a card there was a new check implemented and it stated it was fragmented and needed to be formatted. Did that and I haven't had a shutdown shooting high speed since. Life is good.

Fragmentation is usually caused by manipulating the media outside of the camera. Things like deleting the clips off the media using the computer. Although space will be regained, the FAT fragmentation will degrade writing performance. It is best practice to always format the media in camera after offloading any clips.

Ive got this message a few times now without manipulating anything. Just copying files from ssd to computer, then when i load the ssd into camera i get that message. A little concerning

You shouldn't get fragmentation on your SSD if you are really only copying data off of it. Of course, if you are moving data off that could cause fragmentation.

Have you noticed any patterns of when this occurs? Maybe a feature that you sometimes use? If you do notice a pattern it would be interesting to see if you get the message if you eject the SSD from the camera and then immediately reinsert it. This could prove wether or not the problem is caused by mounting it to your PC or not.

It might be worth sending a support ticket with a log file if you think you are getting this message when you shouldn't be.

Its on newest beta. Its only after ive copied files off ssd to computer. Next time it comes up for a new reel, This comes up. And not on every ssd, just randomly.

This might be caused by your operating system. If the drive is not Read-Only then the system may be creating index or other housekeeping files that are triggering the warning.

Which drive? My computer or my ssd?

Can RED please recommend a Windows tool that does a 'clean' format that the camera likes ?
Perhaps involving a script that sets up the reel number, etc.
I'd like this, as it would let me recopy my blackshade Cal files back to the SSD while it's on my laptop.
It's a time saver.
