  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC Aerials

this clip comes from the shoot from the PictorVision Eclipse Ball using an EPIC with the Ang. 24-290 The Spacecam shoot is other copter footage we did recently. Both are amazing systems for shooting aerials

here's the behind the scenes video of the PictorVision shoot from a few months ago for those that are interested in how we did it:

and here's the thread on the spacecam shoot EPIC shoot, on my list to do the behind the scenes vid on that shoot as well.

Was fun to see that BTS video again!

okay.. I just figured out that this machine with "GOM player" has "enable noise on" as default.. that was why I was seeing lots of noise...

I don't get why ppl would want to have "enable noise on" as default... just don't get it..

Absolutely Epic shots. Loved to watch it at NAB - actually would've love to see it in the theater there too. I wish bandwidth was free so everyone could watch it as an R3D.

Thanks Jarred, great stuff and no complaints here, though I would love to see this in 4k as well. Someday :)

I want to see the world when hungry and daring filmmakers will get this weapon and will be able to show what they can do without millions dollars like majors companies!

Very eloquent and succinct thought. This is why many of us are here. It's certainly the crowning reason I am.

Best,

Eryc

Agree. The noticeable contrast between high-budget and low-budget will be blurred. This camera democratises quality.

Yeah, my biggest thought has always been: Where will the justification lie?

Although we may have a few standout luminaries (and by few, I mean there could literally be thousands - contrary to the greed based model, there is actually enough wealth and spotlight to go around), most productions cannot operate the way that these few ultra-talented, multi-hyphenates will be able to create their art. That's what makes those people special. ;)

Plus, the more funded a project is, the more there will be a need to eliminate variables and the potential for catastrophe. Crews employ redundancy on multiple levels as a safeguard, as well as to deal with the complexity contained within the setups themselves. The more complex scenarios become, the more bloated they become, and the more you also have to cater to the client with special parking and lattes - shit that RED blooded filmmakers could give an ass about, but that's what it is. It's been said before, but I'll venture repeating it anyway, RED/EPIC is merely a tool. In the right hands though, it is ONE HELL OF A TOOL. It can make the right person virtually unstoppable. Chamber plays will move to a whole new level. Soderbergh is already leading that charge with films like The Girlfriend Experience. Cough, cough...natural lighting...cough cough...strategically placed camera...cough.

Ultimately though, and often unfortunately, studios have a way of appropriating the best and brightest talents from the independent realm anyway. It's all a money game at the end of the day. Yet, it will be interesting to see how personal brands develop into the future...alongside their innovative productions. Productions that the authors retain all copyright to, and are able to distribute via the Internet if they choose. ;) I'm really interested to see that future.

And thanks, yet again, Jim for making all this possible and such an interesting journey.

Dang it...one more thing...

GO REDRAY! :)

LOL
Post 720p people want more resolution.
Post 2.5k people want less resolution.
Can't win

If only there was a standard resolution for broadcast that was between those two that would perfectly fill 90% of TVs sold today.... if only... ;)

I am also having trouble watching this video. On a very new MacBook Pro, the video stops at 3 seconds, recovers, then stops at 30 seconds for good. Between 5 seconds and 30 seconds the video is perfect. Any ideas? Have not had any issues playing any Red videos before.

Hey Felix, I'm having the same issues. I have both OSX and Win7 on this late 2010 i7 macbook pro, and have tried VLC player, MPC (with and without FFDSHOW installed), Quicktime etc with the exact same effect on both platforms. Pauses around 3 seconds, stops at 30 seconds. I've downloaded it twice, using google chrome on each platform. Would love to see the whole clip. I'll keep diagnosing and let you know if I find anything!

Bill

PS. Is this a Quicktime h264 or x264?

Same stuttering issue on my work PC as well (WinXP SP3, Intel E7400, 4GB ram). I tried using VLC v1.2 beta, and MPC-HC with ffdshow.
Either this clip is too heavy for my machine, or there's something wrong with the encode.

I've never seen an overall bitrate that's lower than the Video's average bitrate:
