Emails...

"56 a day on average"

I'd say you need an e-mail assistant for the non critical, then create a new e-mail for close friends and family only.

OK... I can officially no longer keep up.

This has now become ridiculous.

In the past 7 years, I have sent over 140,000 emails. About 56 a day ( seven days a week) on average. I have received almost 5 times that amount. Do the math. And Jarred gets more than I do...

It is accelerating. If I go offline for one day... I am behind 400 emails.

That means that I officially no longer have a life. I am a slave to emails.

How did this happen?

Please help me out...

Jim

You could have a more sophisticated algorithm that prioritize incoming mail based on previous volume of receive/answered mails to that person, date registered on RedUser*, specific keywords and absolute withe/black lists, etc.

*Although I officially registered in 2008, I'm here nearly daily since December 2006. Still can't get over the fact that I didn't push that submit button on the 1000$ deposit form at that time...

Same here. Same here. Same here. Same here.

I've been reading basically since day one, but I did not create an account until almost a year later (I absolutely hate message boards, and the idea of having a million logins to contend with is not for me -- and yes, I have a password vault, but that doesn't change anything). To this day, I am not on any other forum sans Facebook. The fact that I have been reading REDUSER this long, and writing in is a testament to the moderators, the IMMENSE KNOWLEDGE BASE of all the intelligent users, and most of all Jim and Jarred's attentiveness, altruism and superhuman effort. It's that spirit that keeps many of us coming back.

At a certain point, this is what you do, Jim. It's not that you don't have a life...email is merely one component of the rather awesome life you have constructed.

What about a "Jim FAQ" at the top of Recon? Surely a lot of emails must be repetitive.

That's the problem.. they are not :(

I couldn't imagine someone trying to filter emails for either one of us... the dynamic unique relationships we have with all of you and our other customers and then everyone else is pretty damn hard to keep track of alone.

And then there are the internal emails.

Sometimes Jim and I will go into a meeting for an hour, and come back to 100 emails each.

Good thing this is so much fun :)

Jarred is a machine... I've never seen anything like it. He never sleeps.

Jim

It's true i got a happy birthday wish from reduser.com...... thinking it was automated i replied thanks to which Jarred sent back....Great now go get pissed...... Scary stuff.. :emote_couch:

Wow Jim, that's crazy! It makes me really grateful for the emails you and Jarred have responded to me. It also makes me feel good that I havent sent you an email in over 6 months, that's such a crazy amount to receive!!! maybe if more people realized just how jammed your inbox is they'd think more about blasting off an email?

whats insane is I write jarred maybe once every 6 months and expect a reply in a couple days and he replies usually within - a couple minutes!

ditto :-)

Ha ha, welcome to the 21th Century Jim... I can totally and completely relate to you guys on this one, even so not to the same craziness of numbers, close to half I would say... ;)

PS: Now that I know, I'll be sending fewer emails to you guys... Hoops I just sent one... Just kidding... ;)

SPS: Thanks for carrying guys!!

Heheh no, what's insane is that they answer at all ;) that they can answer so quickly is because of their superpowers.

But hey, I love it. Too bad computers can't filter emotionally ... But if I think about it maybe its a good thing.

Hire some assistants? You can dictate the replies, they can type. They can also act as filter, giving 'standard' replies to same old standrard / repititive questions, passing only those which require attention from you.

Believe it or not its on the list...

Well if you weren't so inundated with emails I would've sent you my list of 'must have' modules I wish Red would develop. These include the Bad Decision Module (stopping fimmakers from making pre-record mistakes), the 1080p Module (a module that actually intervenes when filming to prevent any 1080p capture) and the JJ Abrams Module (which randomly assigns lens flare to any part of your image)

Good thing this is so much fun :)

I think you said it best.

To pass on a reply quote to me from Jim.

"Pretty simple stuff. Do what you are cut out for."

I remember when I started DVXuser I had one of those drug-dealer pagers that could receive emails , albiet only one way. I thought that was incredible.

When we started RED.. Jim had the new flip Motorola Razer ( actually he had 2, glued back to back ) that could actually send AND receive emails ( as long as you could deal with spelling words out by hitting combinations of number keys. Wow. The future was here!

Now just a few years later we both have Galaxy Notes in our pockets with HD 5.5" screens and quad core cpu's that have twice as much CPU power than our mighty G5 towers did when we started RED...

we need to find the threshold guardian who can tell us that what you dudes are doing is really cool and you could use some time to think about that, and maybe - perhaps - what we wanna say isn't the most important thing that has ever happened to the contemporary storytelling experience.

s.o.p.
