Elite Optica Digital Super 35mm Lenses

Mercedes and Dodge have no relationship anymore; Daimler sold Chrysler off.

5K a prime inspected? I'm interested!

Examples from a quote I was given in May '07 (for the Elite S35 MIII)

14mm - 7750$; (today $8,696.47)
24mm - 5800$; (today $7,562.82)
35mm - 5675$; (today $7,562.82)
50mm - 5675$; (today $7,562.82)
100mm - 6050$ (today $7,943.01)

so $5K/prime beats the pants off even the quote given nearly a year ago!

I am in

If the price really is around $5k per prime I'm interested also. Would the group buy cover zooms also?

Very interested.

Fred, you mention that the lenses will be shipped and need "servicing" in london? can you elaborate? I assume this is new glass...what kind of issues can we expect? Also, this bulk purchase will probably fetch north of half a million $ - what kind of assurances are in place that it will go smoothly? Is there any chance that we may find ourselves waiting for something that never arrives? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi Guys,

I'm going to try to answer these questions very quickly (had a very long day working and need some sleep). I will get into details as soon as it's more clear and set up properly.

Of course, but if we arrange a group buy we're not talking 5 lenses - we're talking 100 lenses.

I don't see why you wouldn't get discount from zoom lenses as well. I bought the whole range + all the zooms and got discount on all lenses. As long as we fill (more or less) the quote we will get discount as in a percentage per lens. I can not promise this 100% (the deal is not confirmed yet) but I see no reason for it not to be. As for the 5K - I have not got this confirmed yet, it's just an estimated guess. Also remember there's different prices on different lenses.

Very interested.

It's like this. The import and export in Russia is quite tricky so sending back lenses is possible but time consuming and complicated. Elite will sign contracts were it clearly states that you have to be 100% satisfied with you lenses otherwise you have the right to change them or have them fixed. Only problem there is that you don't want to send them back unless you really have to. Why? Because it's going to take weeks to get them done. Therefor I'm suggesting and are trying to find a way of sorting this out so the lenses are serviced the way we want them in the quickest possible way.

I'm only speaking out of experience. The lenses are really nice, they will need collimating but that's normal. There's around 2% of fixing - which is things like lightly loosening an iris gear which feels to tight or painting a marking that has been forgotten. Small stuff but still annoying. From my experience I say that you (as a westerner) want those 2% to be checked by a lens technician you trust.

Now you're not going to end up waiting for these lenses and they will never come. That's not going to happen. Optica-Elite is a serious company. After all, Abelcine deals with their merchandise. What we have though is the problematics of dealing with Russian import/ export. It won't be like dealing with ARRI, you send it back and then it arrives some time later. If it was like that you all would have bought these lenses a long time ago, that I can promise you. So making sure we do the quality control (by a lens technician) before you get it is crucial. It will be qualified people that can take care of almost everything, except for the really difficult stuff (for example complete re-housing), that would be sent back to Optica-Elite.

True  but I've own two cars. A 1973 stingray big block (silver metallic) and a Porsche 911 Turbo.:bleh:
BIG difference between owning and driving....Remember that when u get ur RED next week:bleh:

Fred,

Count me in for some lenses. Which, and how many, depends on deal and time frame for payment/delivery. But definitely add me to the list.

Good work and thanks for your time on this.

Update

Update

Hi Guys,

Here's an update. Grigory at Optica-Elite has come back to me and they still think that this bulk deal is an interesting idea and are agreeing on that we should move further. Prices has not been 100% set yet, but he indicated that we would be somewhere around the price tag I've mentioned, so it's looking very good.

As for Abelcine running the US side of this, Grigory said he was honored but unfortunately Elite have an arrangement with Slow Motion Inc. and should therefor honor that. Grigory asked me to contact them instead. I spoke to Mitch who told me that he had already believed that would be the case and that Abelcine is pretty busy as it is anyway, so they were quite relieved. Mitch also said that Slow Motion Inc. are very dear friends of them and that he would stay in touch anyway, keeping up in how this would progress.

As for the lenses. So far Grigory has let me know that an order this big will take time in making them, so we have to take that in consideration. He agree on that it's better if everything ships to one person rather than shipping to everyone directly, but he is going to want to have contact with you so a private establishment can be done.
When it comes to the order. So far he's indicated that these following lenses are the easiest to make a bulk deal from (he's also mentioning how many):

14mm - 5 lenses
18mm - 10 lenses
24mm - 10 lenses
35mm - 10 lenses
50mm - 10 lenses
75mm - 10 lenses
100mm - 10lenses
135mm - 5 lenses

+

18mm Digital - 5 lenses
24mm Digital - 5 lenses
35mm Digital - 5 lenses
50mm Digital - 5 lenses
75mm Digital - 5 lenses
100 mm Digital - 5 lenses

Now that doesn't mean that you can't order any of the other lenses. What can happen is that you have to wait a little longer for them and that they might be slightly more expensive then the ones mentioned, but believe me that the prices are most probably still very satisfying.

As for the ordering. This is what I'm going to do. I'm going to make a new post called the ELITE bulk deal. that thread will go into detail how we'll do this. In that post I will post the initials or user names of everyone that orders (if you guys say it's ok I will post how many lenses each as well, only the number though, just because it will be easier to keep track on it?). This will be the list of which order you're in. I will make the list from the first ones that PM'ed me and the ones that said they were interested on the thread according to order of which they announced it, this will be updated and edited as it goes along. How does that sound?
I just think that, that way we can clearly see the progress of things.

Now this will be the thread until I've spoken to Slow Motion Inc. and been given more details from Grigory. I do though think that you guys should start to PM me what lenses you want to order and put on the ones you want. Remember that the list above are the ones that can be made the quickest and therefor will be the cheapest ones to produce, but don't let that scare you because I'm pretty sure that you will get great deals on the other lenses as well. This is what Grigory says:

Concerning the order of different lenses. Of cause, I understand that the clients are different and their offer should be different. By the best we should not refuse them in their choice.
But you should understand what stands behind it. If we agree with such different order we can not provide such good price and acceptable delivery periods. That's why I suggest our starting range of lenses (for the first hundred), which will be acceptable for all clients. And we will make additional lenses already but some later
.

As you can see he will try to provide in every such way. So lenses mentioned are the bulk deal for what can be delivered within what ever time frame that will be mentioned. Lenses outside of that range will still be ordered and to discount just not maybe to such as great of discount as the others and they might be delivered later.

fred

Best of luck on this, Fred. To everyone, please don't take Abel's lack of involvement as a strike against these lenses. This is about pre-existing contractual obligations.

Mitch

for those in LA area ( or anywhere in USA) - slow motion rents the elite 35 film lenses- if you want to take em for a test drive before you buy ...
