  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Elite Optica Digital Super 35mm Lenses

Dom,

I have not tried them but as I formerly quoted Optica

- they can be used with cameras such as ARRI 435, HD cameras with adapter P + S Technic and also cameras with matrix 18 х 24mm

That way they shouldn't porthole.

They should be more or less similar to the Elite's except for the fact that the housing is smaller (that's why the range is smaller). Calling them digital is wrong. My guess is that they call them that because they would attract the DV crowd - they're smaller and work with the PS technik adapter.

Hi Fred,

Sorry, I think you slightly misunderstood me - I was wondering if the standard - i.e. "non-digital" S35 Elites - have any issues that you're aware of in digital usage? I'd prefer the larger range options of the MkIII Elites in an ideal world.

May still not be ready to purchase in time for the group buy, but if I can, and the MkIII's are good to go on digital (specifically Red, of course, but they'll be a rental item and I won't be shooting exclusively on Red either) then I may well be in for a 5-6 lens set if it can be accommodated...

As far as I know no issues and there shouldn't be any either. I've done a quick test with them on RED and they work fine with it. I will have my RED in a week and at that point I will test them extensively, so if there are any issues we will no well before this deal is going through.

Only issues would be issues that could also occur with a COOKE S4 or Ultra primes and we all know there's no issues there.

( I will post you some pics with the Elites next to COOKE S4 and you'll understand what I mean when I say they're identical).

Thanks Fred - figured that would be the case, but always best to check!

Love to see some comparison frames of the Elites vs S4's, certainly...

Well If they cover S35 full gate they will cover the RED sensor witch is considerably smaller than S35
ANSI S35 24,9X 18,7mm(4perf)
RED(when shooting REDcode) 22.12 x 12.44mm

I shot S35 3perf with them and they covered it without problems

I'd possibly be interested in the group buy as well.

Once someone get's a hold of their "Digital" Elites, would they be interested in renting them for some tests?

Not ready to buy yet but I want to see if they are as good as the spec sheet claims.

Well the Primes are, so there's no reason for the digitals not to be.

i thought http://www.slowmotioninc.com/sales/35_lenses.htm was the only US distributor of Elite lens ?

I only mentioned Abelcine, since I know the guys has helped out on a lot of bulk deals here on REDuser (myself have bought from more or less every single one of them).

But if anyone knows Slowmotion inc - ask them to contact me.

We'll look into things. I can't make any definite statements for my company without discussing it out first. We'll see what we can make happen.

Hey Mitch,
Do you guys sell in Canada?
Looking for a "canadian" vendor.
Banks sometimes get fussy...

We sell TO Canada, but we are located in New York and Los Angeles.

Anyone used that 24-82 zoom who might be able to comment on how it stacks up against the Red 18-85?

And color me "interested".

The RED is a Hyndai

The Elite is a Porsche

and the COOKE is a Ferrari.

That's how you should see it.
