  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2. Unified.

Corrected:

This reminds me, Brent. Will Epic-W Helium Upgrades to DSMC2 Helium cameras have the "EPIC-W" molded SSD module replaced with a "RED" molded SSD module?

Actually, no need to correct. Back in the DSMC1 days, it was called the Side SSD Module.

You will keep your serial number, but all other traces of EPIC-W will be removed.

Brent so its literally a brand new body too? Wish my Gemini had the conversion done when it was at Red last week! lol

Thanks, Brent.

Wow. My heart skipped a beat when I read that. It’s a good thing I think, she’s getting a facelift! But still keeping her 000043 mark is good - it’s part of her DNA.

How you can introduce a new cam a couple of weeks ago, drop price 5K and tell people it is a benefit to upgrade the Gemini to the new board for free!? This is intolerable and it shoukd be the absolutely minimum received to give Gemini owners there 5K back! Sad enough to discuss this here...

I don’t really get the full details of the Epic-W to DSMC2 Helium upgrade program.

Do we keep the old Epic-W body with new internals, new engraving and new coin? (similar to the Epic MX to Epic Dragon upgrade but without the sensor swap and new boards/faster data rates instead)

Since HELIUM and HELIUM MONOCHROME sensors are same cost, you could do the upgrade path to DSMC2 HELIUM with that sensor.

Hi Brent (or anyone else who knows) I don't see a direct upgrade to Helium from scarlet-w on the red website do I contact a rep for this also what would be that cost?

You first have to do the Scarlet-w to gemini upgrade. After that you can go to helium.

No, not a brand new body. Updated.

Bingo.

Please read the rest of this thread to answer your questions.

Luca, driving towards greater efficiency and simplicity was a huge driver for this shift. Stuff like additional engraving and keeping the name EPIC-W kinda defeats that purpose.

Uhh… Finance Dept. We do not adjust daily like the market. I am pretty sure we do it every two months or once a quarter.

Compare DSCM2 GEMINI and EPIC-W GEMINI specs. Faster data rates is one. Being able to accommodate larger than S35 sensors is another.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, Jarred, the team, and I are working to see what we can do for people with WEAPON HELIUM.

Once you are in DSMC2, you can go to MONSTRO. Does not matter if start out with HELIUM or GEMINI, no priority in queue.

RA-W remains the same functionality with DSMC2 as WEAPON, and carries over.

WEAPON was announced at NAB 2015.

Was just working on copy as we speak. We will be doing daily blasts of confirmations on requests starting today.

Working on it. Expect an update in the coming days. Thanks for your patience.

A lot of folks have asked about warranty…

If you have a WEAPON, you have all the board sets, going to DSMC2 is cosmetic… No effect on warranty status.

If you are SCARLET-W DRAGON or EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON who are trading in to a DSMC2 brain, if you have not entered your extended warranty (RED ARMOR) timeframe (i.e., still under original warranty), that will carry over to your new camera. If currently in extended warranty period, that balance does not carry over. Same policy as with prior trade-in programs...

EPIC-W, updating boards to DSMC2, congrats - your standard warranty went from 1 year to 2 years. And you have option of buying UPGRADE ARMOR on top of that. If you already have RED ARMOR, that carries over as well.

If you need more details or clarifications, your rep is your next step, I don’t want this thread de-railed into a warranty one : )

The warranty is a GREAT NEWS! so mine was expiring the 2019 this mean that I get two more years right?

Luca, I have no clue what camera you have : )

If you mean you have a EPIC-W that will be updated to DSMC2, then you get an additional year of standard warranty?

Aside from the Monster sensor, rental houses that dropped $50k+ on the Weapon Helium are now going to be competing with owner operators renting out the same camera based on its $25k price. If you're matching market rates then I have to imagine those will get lower for the Weapon Helium.
This is exactly where I am stuck...at least for the moment.

Brent, thanks for your answer on the warranty. Happy to know that if I trade in my Scarlet-W for the Gemini the extended warranty (RED ARMOR) will carry over. But does the new camera (Gemini) from trade in come with standard 2 year warranty as buying new?

Brent, I know you are getting a ton of questions right now. I am trying to understand the body difference from what I have now. I have a Forged CF Weapon that started life as a Dragon 6k, and I upgraded it to Helium 8K during that program. If I were to upgrade to Monstro, do I lose my forged body? I know it has not been an option for a while now, but at the time, it cost $10K more than a woven CF Weapon did. Thanks man!

This happens at NYU because most of the kids who can afford to go to NYU are from a very rich family. The tuition is $78k/year if you don't have scholarship...

Good lord, Jason... I hope you gain some valuable connections out of that. $78k/yearly... dude I'd buy a Tesla.
