  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 RELEASE CANDIDATE BUILD V7.0.0RC4

I figured that may be the cause of it. Tried it as well and no luck. I'm going to try and troubleshoot it again tomorrow. I still think it may be firmware related. Lets see what happens.

I'm an idiot. Had the transmitter and receiver units connected incorrectly. Stupid move on my part. I should definitely try troubleshooting gear when I'm not sleep deprived haha.

Today I had an issue with playback, but the problem went away later in the day (and after a few reboots). When I played a clip, the right half of the frame was flickering black. All the footage on the card is good, which was the first thing I checked. It just made it a little annoying for reviewing clips at the time, hopefully it doesn't pop back up.

How can you burn an uploaded lut into the 2k prores? Jarred said this is possible.

It's right by where you select what flavor of pro-res you want
Make sure it says "All Image Settings" (Rec 709/SDR) and that should get you baked in settings on pro-res

Chris I'm assuming your on helium?

I guess this option is not there for magnesium weapon

Correct. Do you not have those options on 6K Weapon? Forgot that full implementation of IPP2 was only on helium/VV cameras.

Nope, although seems like it should be possible

Current VV cameras are Dragon based sensor tech. Only the Helium based cameras are equipped with electronics to implement IPP2 in camera.

I didn't realize burning in a user uploaded lut is considered IPP2. I can monitor the same lut just fine. Oh well

With Scarlet-W we can monitor with a custom-made IPP2 17x17x17 3D LUT output transform in camera while shooting with RWG/Log3G10, but we can't do that for playback.. I hope the release build will at least enable the 3D LUT for playback so I don't have to explain again and again to my clients about why they look like that in RWG/Log3G10.
Yes, we could change the monitoring to another RED/Dragoncolor & REDgamma to give some color and contrast for playback previewing, but it's not practical and the custom IPP2 3D LUT is looking wayy better.

How is stability on this firmware? I've been pretty comfortable with the previous but if this one is better and stable, I'd love to upgrade also. thoughts fellow users?

I was told by a friend with an epic-w that you now can have playback with 3D luts in this latest build. I asked if he was sure and he said absolutely he just tested it.

Updated IPP2 calculations to improve overall image brightness match between Legacy and IPP2 modes

I'm a little confused by this. Wasn't the brightness changed deliberately to match Alexa more closely? Is this reverting to the old ISO brightness?

We've used this build on a couple shoots and we've had no issues so far (other than the WC plate not giving us battery info but that was discussed already on this thread).

I can confirm that.

Not working with my Scarlet-W in this build.. The "Creative 3D LUT" drop-down menu is greyed out while in playback mode... I guess it's for IPP2 / Helium cameras only? :(

I have the same, its a little ridiculous if this is the case in the final release.
I hope this can be added/resolved.

The ISO re-calibration to better match typical light meters is still in place. The change mentioned is very subtle and matches the overall brightness of a shot better if you move a shot from IPP2 to Legacy or Legacy to IPP2. The two won't match exactly because of the different tone curve, but this change gets it as close as it can be.

This is actually something I first noticed when I started applying IPP2 to my shots, and I’d typically spend a bit of time taming the brightness just a tad. The new adjustment has stopped this habit dead in its tracks. Feeling a lot more comfortable with what comes directly out of IPP2 now. Great choice in the small change.
