Wondering if anyone has any opinions / compelling reasons to move from a Bomb OLED EVF to the new OLED EVF? Seems a rez bump and of course cableless attachment to brain .. but that in itself isn't enough to swing us over esp given the resale market for the EVFs seems pretty cold at the moment.

I'm guessing from the RED store status these haven't actually started shipping yet, but if anyone does actually have their hands on one and can provide first-hand experience would love to hear your thoughts.. tx!

The DSMC2 EVF is worlds apart. Predominantly down to the optics, but other improvements too of course.

Best EVF I've seen. I've not heard a peep of complaint from anyone who puts their eye to one. That certainly can't be said for many others.

I've used all of the RED EVFs, from the original Red One beast of a unit, to the LCOS and OLED EVFs for Epic. The Weapon EVF is the closest I've felt to looking through an optical finder in a long time. I echo what John has to say. The image is crisp, clear, and distinctly different from the previous EVFs.

Hopefully mine will ship this week. What about the actual size of the image compared to some of the others?

In the store, the DSMC2 EVF is marked as being WEAPON / SCARLET-W / RAVEN only compatible. Doesn't it work on the old DSMC system with the included adapters?

EDIT: Found it. It's just the DSMC2 package with the adaptors that is marked DSMC2 only.

You could also look at the BM Ursa EVF. Its 1080p oled and decent optics as well, only around $1400. For use on Dragon/Weapon, DC in is on a XLR, I just chopped that off and added a 2pin lemo, then its just SDI to the brain.
A million times better than either bomb evf. The DSMC2 EVF sounds ok, but still no shutter to block off sunlight damage, no heated eyepiece, doesn't appear to have any better way to a secure eye piece chamois/cushion. I use to worry about being out in the middle of africa with only sdi monitoring and loosing the menu displays, but with a sidekick that wont be a problem.

For about 4x the cost I'm waiting to try a dcmc2 evf in person before ordering.

Cheers for all the feedback folks. I'm with you Matthew every time I ask one of these questions I end up reaching for the credit card!!

Can you elaborate? Still 2 cables from evf to camera back, correct?

Yes 2 cables, power and SDI. The Ursa EVF is no Amira EVF, but pretty nice for the cost, and less clunky then graticle, alphatron, etc - so I wouldnt be surprised if BM made a version that is more generic and ran off a LP6 battery, maybe NAB?

Has anyone received theirs yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

I've been waiting to look through one before deciding to buy. Have the Bomb OLED EVF and I always thought it was pretty good, but there are posterization and splotchy effects, especially when there's a lot of shadow noise, that is created with the scaling between the DSMC brain and EVF. I'd really like to know if this has been addressed with the new Weapon EVF...

And yeah, watching the used market for the Bomb, it seems the OLED version is the only one selling and yes, the market is pretty cold. Like it is for all the DSMC accessories. And I have a bunch of stuff that doesn't work with Weapon or is somewhat duplicated -- Side handles, Switchblade, TI PL Mount. Still using the 5.0 touch screen and I'm not sure if I want to unload it in favor of the new 4.5" or just get the new 7" to compliment or do both or what... Now I'm rambling. I need to play with new bits at NAB.

Where do you guys fit the Gratical HD in this spread? I own one but I don't know if it's better than the Bomb OLED. I find the Gratical too big and the SDI lag bums me out. Scopes are nice and all, but I use other monitors for scopes on set.

It would be easy to replace my Gratical with a Bomb OLED from the Marketplace, but then I have to source a +1 Module and ActionProducts adapter plate = extra breakdown from studio to gimbal mode which I do a lot. (Btw, does the +1 Module have a similar lag since it pulls from the HDMI port?)

Or is the price of a DSMC2 OLED Bomb definitely worth it (even when I don't have immediate plans to go Weapon upgrade)?

And since my kit rents out, is getting a Bomb more rental friendly rather than a 3rd party EVF?

Awesome, thanks guys for doing the testing. I'm waiting for mine to be shipped. Also any tips you guys have on using it are most welcome.

Just got ours and will put it through its paces tomorrow!

M

Just got mine - great packaging BTW - look forward to looking through it tomorrow. Happy to report back on how it performs.

Cheers - #19

Our EVF arrived earlier this week, here it is locked and loaded on our WEAPON-CF. The focus is razor sharp!

How's the color/contrast/image size?

Yes, what is the Image size compared to previous?

I find looking at a small image almost useless.
