  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 BETA V7.1

You know what I love? Any tutorials from Nate... Maybe this is too small for him but I live to see him..... And yes full disclosure he is a friend and colleague .... but come on he is great

Thanks Peter! The feeling is mutual. We're cooking up a few more videos as we speak. :)

Wow. This Beta is freaking amazing. Steering the ship in the right direction here!

please add skateboards.

just shot four days with this. I was worried about using a Beta build, but had some situations where having peaking at my fingertips trumped worry. It performed great - a little slow toggling back and forth between playback and some occasional monitor flicker but otherwise worked like a champ. the peaking function is fab. just what I needed.

used an epic-w yesterday with the beta, had the blueshape WC v-lock adapter and got the same low voltage shut off. I opened up the battery adapter and there's no way to update, no micro sd slot, any ideas, will the non-beta resolve this issue?

+1 and I love to add the Zacuto peaking on top of it as the RED peaking is very subtile (less popping and red) and the Zacuto one is from the HD signal and a bit less subtile (I use green) but takes the peaking of the RED and enance it where it appears the most. So for quick motion and focus I use the green one (from Zacuto) and for precise focus on small paced movements I use the RED's one wich is red.

Would love to be able to custom the color and intensity (and not amount) of the RED peaking. It's the tool worth upgrading for me.

I think you have to update your WC cable less V-lock plate. I've done mine and now updated for FW 7.1 and it works falwlessly.

has anyone experienced the in camera microphone s stop
working after upgrade?

Curtis.

I think the pre-amp gain is reset to minimum gain after upgrading.

+) Tried internal & internal mikes yesterday - all looked good after the Upgrade / all 4 channels also transmitted over WiFi in real time to client (INKontrol). I did notice the (same as previous FW version) 3-5 second freezes the auto-calibration is being performed.

I would like to know more about the upgrade of the ‘Internal WiFi Module’ that is reported however.

I had issues relating to ad-hoc WiFi dying and necessitating rebooting the camera in order to remotely control it over WiFi.
(I think it was either after a magnify or clip save).

When I get time - I will see I can reproduce this in a controlled environment.

The peaking in the Beta FW is definitely a welcome addition. Having said that, I will say that I may have been spoiled with how great the focus peaking is on my Video Devices PIX E5 monitor. Similar size monitors (5" vs 4.7"), but for critical focus I still find myself double checking on the RED monitor with the Edge focus tool, whereas with the PIX E5, the basic focus peaking is so clear that it's all I need. Now I still need to play around a little more with RED's new peaking and see if I can find a better sweet spot by adjusting the settings, but it may just come down to the fact the 5" PIX E monitor is 1080 where the RED touch 4.7" is 720 resolution. Either way, still really happy RED is finally adding this feature.

This is the first beta FW I've tried, but it seems really stable, with one exception. My battery sources are powering the camera fine, but having some communication issues. With the "dumb" (no communication with camera body) V-Mount SHAPE battery I have, the power indicator light on the right side of the camera body is always blinking red, when it should only do that when the voltage gets too low. And the smart V Mount batteries I have from IDX I've noticed a few inconsistencies when it correctly shows the time remaining on screen, and other times has said N/A, as if it can't communicate with the battery. Anyone else having similar issues?

Me too.

having the same issue with one of my blue shape granite minis which is weird. One will show percentage left etc and the other nothing at all along with the flashing power light.

Same here, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Love the new beta, but that load time is forever. Well about 3 min, but when you have a shot and your just waiting for the camera to boot up, it's an eternity. Hopefully when it goes into it's release form it will be better.

3 minutes sounds way too long Simeon. Might want to contact RED about that. Start-up time should be around 40-45seconds.

Regarding Wooden Camera accessories and 7.1

I've reached out to WC and gotten full cooperation, even on a second-handed purchase of my blueshape v-mount adapter, to have the board updated to v8 at no cost. John Gatzlaff (john@woodencamera.com) has been thorough and quick to respond, he can help anyone with a board that doesn't have a micro sd card slot on their board.
