  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 BETA V7.1

WHOAH, anyone else having issues? I want to update for the speed but this scares me!

I had this issue also. I would have to repeadedly turn on and off and would randomly boot past the red logo splash screen, it would display the improper shutdown warning. Also gave me dead/hot pixels even after numerous blackshade. The new Version of 7.1.0.1 fixed the power issue from what i can tell so far but still produces the hot pixels even after blackshading numerous times, so have gone back to 7.0.4. I would suggest doing the same. The new firmware is nearly there looking forward to it dropping with the little bugs ironed out, as peaking and speek was much better :)

Did anybody got reply or found a solution about SIGMA LENSES aperture control not responding ?

I'm on the latest 7.1.01 and my Sigma, Canon and Tokina still lenses all work fine. I'm on a Gemini.

Red Gemini latest 7.1.01. Not sure if this is related to firmware but two days ago on a long shoot the sound mixer was using a Tentacle Sync going into the Sync port on the Red V-Lock I/O Expander. It was causing false triggers with Record. Both starting and sometimes stopping. We took off the Tentacle and the false record triggers stopped. The other Op was on an Epic-W with older firmware, and his camera was fine with the Tentacle Sync. Anyone else run into this issue? Not a big deal as I don’t use a Lock-It box very often.

I use a DSCM2 Gemini with Tentacle Sync-E and haven't had any issues with 7.1.0.1. Are you sure the tentacle is connected to Sync and not Ctrl port?

Let my camera run for 1hr+ and never had it trigger record or anything out of the ordinary.

I have no problems on my Scarlet-W with my Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Art, after updating the lens to it's newest firmware. However I am having problems with my Sigma 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM Art, which is also running the newest lens firmware. I'm loosing aperture control constantly. I had this problem before updating to 7.1.0.1, but now it actually seems to have gotten worse. Before I just had to unmount the lens enough to seperate the connection and then remount it a couple of times, but now it seems like I have to reboot the camera!? Not sure if it's the new RED Firmware, the Sigma firmware on the lens, or maybe a combination.

I'm also seeing a strange behaviour with the 50-100mm, where it opens to f/1.7 in aperture menu, choosing f/1.7 triggers the apeture motor (it makes a sound like it's changing the apeture), but nothing else happens, because the lens of cause only opens to f/1.8

Sorry to ask a stupid question. But did they use the right port? I once put my TC lemo in the CTRL port. They are both the same lemos.

What free upgrade? The word I got from them last year was that it would cost me to change it. If they suddenly went "free" on that without telling the customers of that battery plate, which they earlier said was a paid change, that's a bullshit move.

We got several emails from Wooden camera months ago telling us to register to get the free upgrade and we did and got the free upgraded board. You should be happy that the upgrade is free instead of having to pay for it... no? ;-)
Just email them they will take care of it.

look back at my previous post, John Gatzlaff, john@woodencamera.com can assist you in a free PCB upgrade to 8.0 that has the micro sd slot to further upgrade.

Just installed the 7.1.0.1 released on Nov 27th. V-Mount work fine and all still lenses with electronic aperture - Canon, Tokina and Sigma seem to work. No issues with hot pixels either. Only issue: With non-Red Chipped Batteries, aka Voltage readout, I'm still getting the red blinking LED still instead of a solid green like before. Not a huge deal, but maybe it can get fixed in the next update? Overall, very nice firmware update.

Updated to get my Teradek DSMC2 Bolt module to work. Prior to that I was getting no video to the receiver but everything was powering correctly with Brain->Teradek->OMOD XLR2->RED V-lok plate config. As soon as I upgraded - every time I'd boot the camera, after initialization it would go straight into a low voltage 10sec countdown and turn the camera off (despite trying with fully-charged batteries from two different manufacturers). I removed the OMOD & RED Vlok plate and switched to a RED V-lok Expander module and it all worked fine. Waiting on word back from OffHollywood on whether it's an issue with the OMOD firmware.

DSMC2 Bolt module is dope BTW :)
