  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Firmware 6.4.21 , Scarlet-W and Weapon MG Spec increases

Any word on when the new firmware will leave beta for official release? also has anyone noticed in the current release build that the clips take a little longer to load than before? I hope that something that will get better with the next build as well.

+++++1!

Can I make a suggestion for the next update? Please please please please please please please
add a color focus peaking option. I would love to be able to have focus peaking in a red or green color or something other than just the sharpening effect that doesn't work to well for me. This would be a maaaaaaajor plus for us all!

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the RED commuunity, just got a Scarlet Weapon and updated the firmware to 6.4.23.
I'm trying to activate ipp2 mode in Menu/Image/Image Pipeline/Mode, and the only option that is available is Legacy.
Am I doing something wrong or ipp2 mode is not available for the Scarlet Weapon?

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks!

Bruno

In camera I think IPP2 is only available on Helium Cameras.

I recommend the WideGamutRGB and Log4G10 combo, because I've found that even without IPP2, it maked getting better color easier. The color looks more natural to start with, and it's easier to grade, so basically you get to have your cake and eat it, too.

Awesome thanks! In terms of exposing skin tones with False Color, will the correct exposure be the same as with DragonnColor2 and REDgamma 4?

I've been using the GioScope view for exposure, and experimenting a bit, I figured out what zones worked, and the results since have been pretty much flawless.

GIO Scope is really awesome, noise floor and highlights clipping management is spot on and deadly accurate, no more guesswork! I can nail a perfect exposure every single time with this tool alone in any demanding situation. Put the middle gray at higher zone 13-15 for a deep clean blacks in low key scene (low ISO setting) and put the middle gray at lower zone 8-10 for highlights protection/soft roll-off in highkey scene (high ISO setting). As simple as that, effective & efficient.

Zone 11 is always the safe middle gray for exposing at ISO 800 in any 'normal' situation (Dragon sensor, SW) with a good balance between 'texture' and clipping protection.

Remember to use it according to your or the client need, whether it's a noise free image in dark areas or a safe and super soft highlights roll-off! (or both :) )
I once learned the hard way when a client was shocked to see their blacks are 'noisy', because I let the GIO Scope lower zone as the middle gray. I was stopping down to protect the window from blowing out and it fills the screen blueish (low zone = noise/image texture), the sensor is starving of light! I should have make it all greenish yellow and just let the window blown out/dark red because it's not the client were care about.

Can anyone report on weather the compression ratios of slow mo have improved

Can anyone report on weather the compression ratios of slow mo have improved

Now that we are on firmware 7.0, can anyone confirm that the compression ratios have been improved for slow motion and the increased data rates promised in this beta are now implemented?
