  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

3D LUTS don't seem to work under Legacy. Trying to enable John Schick's RED to Alexa LUT under Legacy as enabling it under IPP2 causes a double rendering of the transform to REC709. However, while 3DLUTs work in IPP2, it doesn't work in Legacy Image Pipeline.

Such LUTs combine a creative aspect and output transform. They can't be used in a system which also incorporates an output transform or else you get a double output transform.

In IPP2 by specifying creative LUTs to be output-transform-less it means users get greater flexibility - they're not tied to a single colour space or linearity but can use the creative LUT over HDR or SDR or Rec2020 or Rec709 or whatever. I've tested this process extensively here and a well designed creative LUT can work beautifully on a normal HDTV image, and then by the flip of the output transform switch pipe out to an HDR display with a different colour space and still perform and not unduly limit brightness or colour gamut either. It's a very flexible and powerful system.

Thanks for all you and the RED team has done Graeme! You guys keep pushing the envelope!

I'd think since IPP2 is officially rolled out you'd take a vacation by now ;)

Jarred...or anyone who knows...whats the "meaningful price increase" gonna be on Scarlet W and Raven?

Sorry I can't recall exactly where I saw it but I think 20% was a figure that was thrown out. I think it was Jarred who said it, but don't quote me. :-/

When I am exporting a IPP2 grade from RedCine-X 50 Beta my clip gets gamma "shifted". In the viewer it shows the correct gamma curve but whenever I export (choosing automatic and none in gamma) it gets darker.
Should I do something specific to get the correct gamma exported with prores?

IPP2 is monitor independent. That means that you set REDCine-X to your monitor type for viewing, but you may wish to export different settings. For example you may be monitoring in REDCine-X on a normal HD monitor, but want to export out to HDR.

In the export settings, you can select "ungraded" which is pure RWG/Log3G10, or you can select "graded" and you'll have to tell me what you've picked there. Can you screen-grab us your export settings and we can try and duplicate here?

Yes. These are my settings. The weird part is that I can't click on the dropdown menus under "IPP2 Output Transform".

Hi Anton:

Not sure why it's not working for me. I did set the settings to LOG3G10 and RWGRGB. Made no difference when I turn on and off the LUT with those settings.

Yes you should be able to access those controls. I've asked the REDCine-X team to take a look.

In the original post it says "Raven existing direct orders end of April ". I ordered a Raven through Innocinema in Atlanta with a time stamp in late April 2016. On the Red Raven Queue Put Together thread I see that people are getting allocated with more time recent time stamps than mine. What kind of timeline or delay are people who didn't order directly from RED looking at?

Same issue for me. Gamma shift and no access to the dropdowns.

Thanks for your work Graeme.

I doubt it's a gamma shift. It looks to me that because you can't access the output transform menu, that the correct output transform does not get applied and thus you get the wrong image. I've asked the REDCine-X team to take a look at this specific issue.

Thanks Graeme. Still getting used to the new pipeline.
Thanks

Is the inability to change the output transform settings limited to editing an old export preset, and does making a new one help? Is the issue tied to ProRes export, or does Tiff and DPX have the same issue? What about the still-image snapshot function - is that making a still image that looks correct? Just thinking of what you can try to help the REDCine-X team figure this one out!

I think I figured it out. A changed the file format to DPX, Apple ProRes and then it worked to change output transform. The only file format that doesn't allow it is Quicktime and BWF.

Thanks! Hopefully that's the clue the REDCine-X team need to nail it!

I have playback issues from my Helium S35 camera. Prores plays back but R3D gives me vertical lines that flicker violently.
No error message. Latest beta build. IPP2. Prores clearly in log when played. Rebooted and card formatted.

Jens - can you email me a camera log so engineering can look at why the R3D is not playing back correctly. At the moment ProRes is recording Log, so that aspect is correct.

Graeme

Any plans to have an option to view playback with a custom LUT, It's a shame to review in log.
Also An option to record with or without LUT baked in into ProRes/DNXHD

thanks
