  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

i'm having major issues with the WC cable-less box. Which FW did you roll back to? I just tried to roll back to the previous because the SW wouldn't fully power on. After rolling back it's still shutting down before powering all the way up.

How do we take advantage of the UDF file format? Just do a regular format of the card? >4GB ProRes files are a game changer for me. Will REDundead still work after we move to UDF?

Also, will these new IPP2 controls be available for FCPX and Premiere? Would love to be have the ability to use a Creative LUT before the Transform LUT for quick turnarounds.

Yusss to more consistent ISO between the camera and my light meter!

And hooray for LUT support in Playback! Now my director will no longer have to look at log playback!

is it necessary to run the new beta version of RCX with this or can we use the non Beta RCX??

You can still use the non Beta RCX, but you won't get access to the new IPP2 features.

Some amazing new features and playing around with IPP 2 here this evening. One question maybe someone can answer, the images in play back look super contrasty and different from record or how they appear in RCX with IPP2. Is there something I'm missing here in terms of configuring playback in camera?

SO great to see this release. I know boatloads of hard work went into creating this and to getting things better. This "whole pipeline" approach has been needed for quite some time and people will see the benefits with any R3D past or present.

Cheers to the RED team!

Hi guys been a little behind on the news... it seems like a great update. I have a raven and i have a couple of questions.

1) i know this is beta and i understand what that means... but is this update relatively safe to do? is there a lot of known bugs? should i just wait to a normal release? or is this how red usually operates when it comes to updates?
2) does this new color science work on raven? or is it only selectable in post?
3) anything else you think i should know?

Thanks guys.

As always there's a few things that aren't exactly in the release notes with a beta firmware update.

Some highlights in the 5 minutes I have in my hotel room in Qatar:

- Much snappier and improved Magnify Reticle, much appreciated.
- Zebras are now sensibly placed in the rest of the In Camera Exposure Tools
- RAW Check is now DEAD, long live Log Check. (Are we looking at Log3G10 btw or still REDlogFilm?)

I've had a couple of funky boot ups with horizontal lines going through the LCD Touch. Removing the screen and placing it back on the camera while turned on fixed that.

The Histogram on Weapon 8K S35 Helium doesn't report RWG/Log3G10+LUT or anything, so hard to know what it is seeing and what the Video Check and Exposure Check are seeing. I think this actually might be a simplification effort however to de-clutter the screen.

Video Check appears to take into account the Output Transform and LUT, which is good.

I know you are just getting started with this but an updated Apple workflow installer including IPP2 as and instant LUT that can be applied in the app would be a large bonus without having to add a LUT as an effect.

I imagine once the SDK is released and everybody checks into the new cool this will be "automatic".

Yes it's here!

Couple of problems tough.

I really miss on the histogram the info what I'm doing. I now feel the urge to double check everytime I start up that the camera is not going back to legacy.

The second thing that's way worse for me is that the menu is freezing randomly. The feed is coming trough but recording or entering the menu, switching resolution or WB freezes. Sometimes for a couple of seconds but sometimes I have to restart the system.

Have to rollback for the job next week.
But guys really good job I like it a lot:)

Is there yet some other way than first exporting footage from REDCINE-X to get the IPP2 to Premiere pro?

In the old image pipeline I liked to use the 'denoise' setting at 2 or 3. I see that that is the only debayer control to stick around, but it doesn't seem to be working in this redcine-X beta. Is this control the same as in previous versions?

This is not yet enabled for IPP2. We know people like it, so we're working on it!

Love the update well done!
Super glad now exposure tools work, compared with the old Preview IPP2 (Helium).

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ipp2 doesn't support baked in prores yet?
I can see how that might be difficult, but it saves doing transcodes quite a bit and would be amazing for the next upgrade!

Keep the good work up, much appreciated!

Baking IPP2 into ProRes is tricky, and we know people want it. I've asked engineering to take a look and see if it's possible.

Pb with 6.4 and my RAVEN

Pb with 6.4 and my RAVEN

I tried this upgrade this morning on my RAVEN,

but my top LCD stoped working just after the "initialysing" ... :-(
I had to un-plug and re-plug it to have the image back...
I hadn't this problem when my monitor was plug on the left side!

I decided to downgrade to 6.3 my RAVEN, I can't work with un-plug/re-plug my touchscreen at each re-start camera...

Hope that's come from the BETA firmware...

Let me know if someone had the same problem...and solution!

Thanks

In the new firmware prerecord gives "error recording halted: record error" when i press the record button after triggering prerecord and a restart window opens.

And the battery info is gone (woodencamera cableless vmount battery plate ).

I too tried my wooden camera cableless vmount and it just like the AB mount does not show % or voltage. - the RED base i/o vmount works perfect (obviously)
