  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC v5.2.28 Release Build

For those of us not in the know, what were the goal post and exposure issues that needed fixing for DRAGON? Thanks!
Easiest way to explain it, it was 2x more sensitive to noise. so basically anything dark in the image would trip it.

Can't wait to try this out.

When i try to upgrade the red mote through the camera, the camera powers down. Any ideas as to why?

Our engineers are aware of this issue and working on a fix now. You can still upgrade the REDMOTE firmware from your computer using the REDMOTE Upgrade Utility. The DSMC TOOLKIT contains the REDMOTE Upgrade Utility and is available for download here.

Thanks for all the new Nikon mount support and fixes!
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Sigma 120-300mm does on the Epic.

I hear you. And I see this issue on my Epic X as well. Do you have MINI SSDs or standard ones? I haven't been able to upgrade to the latest release. force_upgrade folder on MINI SSD but camera fails to recognize it, even when attempting to do a manual upgrade inside the menus.

Let me know if you get to the bottom of this.

Marcos, posted this in another thread:

Just finished upgrading firmware on second camera via the 1.8" SSD. I think I may have varied my procedure in only one small way to get these two force upgrades to work.

Trent suggested undocking the SSD media transfer connection. You have the option to "eject" a thumbdrive from Windows but the SSD media transfer module doesn't have the "eject" option in Windows Explorer. Still, after reading Trent's suggestion I clicked on the media reader instead of the media located on the SSD, before turning off the media reader and removing the SSD.

That one little step was the difference between success and failure.

There are four user calibrations allowable, in camera

Thank you very much

Fury

Upgraded and did two calibrations, but they only save to my SSD card, not to the camera. I thought they were supposed to be stored in the camera memory?

Cristoffer,

explain in how you are doing it.

Are you saving to user preset 1, then user2, etc? They do not use custom names in the camera but tell you the temp and shutter angle.

The 4 user calibrations are available on Dragon, not MX based cameras.

Loaded the build last night and shot product demos with it all day. Flawless.

I started the day on the Cal map I made last night, in a cool room, only a couple of minutes after powering up. After a couple hours of rolling today, and ambient temperatures exceeding 80°F, I did a second Cal map and saved it to a separate slot. My goal was to have a "cool" and "warm" option I could select quickly per circumstance using "normal" frame rates like 24fps/180° shutter.

I still have 2 slots I can use for storing specialty cal maps - AND - the ability to jump right back to "normal-cool" or "normal-warm" so fast I doubt anyone on set but me will even be aware of it. Thanks RedTeam.

Cheers - #19

This is weird. I was running the latest beta and was able to black shade at 1fps 180 degree shutter. Under this build I can only blackshade as low as 8fps.

From the Brand NEW DSMC GUIDE

MYSTERIUM-X: Slowest speed is 1/sensor frame rate. For 24 FPS, the slowest speed is 1/24 sec.
RED DRAGON: Slowest speed is 1/8 sec, regardless of the sensor frame rate.

So happy with the new update, my eye's don't deceive me now when looking at my image and the guide tools!

Love it!

THANKS!

Odd, then, that I was able to black shade my dragon at 1fps/180 in the last beta build.

Ah, darn, so it's a memory thing? I mean that the MX doesn't have enough memory in camera to be able to store calibrations?
Haven't tested it yet, but is it possible to keep the calibrations on the SSD even after formatting? If not, maybe for future firmwares?

Has it been said its a technical limitation of Epic? I missed that if it was.

1) It makes sense that the Dragon electronics are more robust, including memory capacity.

2) There have been conspiracy theories over the years about RED manipulating the product line to protect certain products and that is just not how they roll; they don't "hold back" features that they could otherwise offer. So, you can believe what you want but the evidence just isn't there. My opinion, of course.

There's a bit more onboard memory in the dragon boards so they squeezed it onto dragon. No conspiracy theories, just little advancements.

With Epic and now too, I keep a folder of BS calibrations on the desktop, but I also have a 48gb SSD just for calibrations, looks, etc.
sometimes I miss the sd slot on the R1. :)

i think eventually you might be able to save these on a phone or ipad and through something like fool control, load them wirelessly from there,
-or if the redmote had a little memory built into it that would be good,
-or maybe a thumb drive that could be accessed through the gigabit Ethernet port.
-or a low cost dedicated SSD that cannot record REDcode.

any of these would be good for LUT support as well (when it's implemented)
