  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What exactly is the difference? Is there an advantage to using the new mount with the Weapon? Thanks

Looks like the light path of the new one looks different it´s more like stepped matte black cone shape. So thinking it eliminate some flaring better or such.

Traded my Ti for a Nikon mount when I got the magnesium.


Edit maybe the cone thing is in the camera sensor cavity. Any way looking into the mouth of weapon with that mount looks very different from dragon wit the Ti mount.

I think this forum will be flooded with FS Ti PL threads when the weapon upgrades are all out. There must be some reason why rd "give" us those new Mg mounts as they very much flood the second hand market of Ti mounts which is offcourse a great thing for everyone that only had a Canon or Nikon mount or such before. Buying a scarlet W brain only and then pick up a used Ti mount is makes the value for scarlet W even better.

Slightly lighter weight, all black, captive bolts.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head.

In the lower left corner of the MG PL it states "6K". There is going to be a new 8K MG PL at some point. It has a larger opening and different flocking/anti-reflective designed for the larger sensor.

Don't know if there's an upgrade program or anything on that yet, but I imagine we'll hear of the plan soon.

Jarred mentioned there would be a new EF Mount at some point as well, but the current EF Mount seems to work with the 8K Weapon as well.

I think the procedure is you send in the camera with a Ti mount and you get a weapon f 2 mounts back. Old ti and Mg mount.
 
Mount exchange from Ti to Mg only included with the Forged and Woven Weapon upgrades.

Is not included with the Mg Weapon upgrade.

Though I really wish it could be...
 
I made the assumption that the Ti mounts was sent in to be upgraded for both upgrades but then sent back. Where did you learn that the Mg upgrades would not keep their mounts and get the mg mount?

Just look at the upgrade contents and only the CF upgrade includes the new MG mount.
 
What I wonder is does the new MG mount construction allow for "wiggling" the lens to achieve a certain flare effect. When you unlock the mount and move the lens a bit to let some light to get in between the sensor and the back of the lens. This is very easy to do on Alexa but was almost imposible on Epic due to the original PL mount gripping super hard to lenses. It was even hard sometimes to put the lens in from the first try because it was so narrow in this regard. I hope it is solved with this new PL mount.

Besides what Bob said, when I was talking with my BS rep while contemplating the upgrade, we discussed the mount situation. My original thought was to just send in the Dragon without the mount but with a cap.
Found out that some early Ti PL mounts need to be upgraded to work with the Weapon. So, if I went for the Mg body, my Ti mount would be tested, then upgraded to another Ti mount that was compatible if needed.

In the case of someone upgrading to the Forged or Woven CF bodies, the Ti would be upgraded to the Mg mount.

Not sure if that was ever posted in a thread.
