  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Release v7.0.0

I just upgraded an Epic-W to 7.0.0 and lost my voltage readings for my WC cableless v-lock.

No fix. Go back a few pages and see Brent's official statement on the matter. Will need to purchase a new piece from WC later this year when they come out with it.

After updating tp 7.0 I have this blue line on the right side of my screen. Sometimes it comes and goes then it stays constantly. It shows up on my footage as well.

**UPDATE**
I just did a auto black shade and that seems to have fixed the issue under lower iso settings but if i rate to 3200 the line is slightly visible. Any suggestions?

+1 for a voltage warning or auto shutdown after writing out recording file, below a user settable minimum voltage feature!

I've been wishing this for a while as when I first got the camera accidental shut off happened all the time. I've trained myself to constantly monitor the voltage, but sometimes it's so busy on set I just forget and BAM, the camera just shuts off. The possible data corruption is scary.

It would be great to have a flashing "Low Voltage" warning. Batteries go quick on Red because it's a powerful camera, so a warning is even more important.

+1 I would love to have the option to set a low voltage limit shutoff.

Just to confirm (really dont want to install the wrong Firmware) the weapon firmware would be the correct one for the EPIC-W yes?

Each model has its own specific version of the firmware, so you'd want the Epic-W one Brayden - https://www.red.com/downloads

Epic-W has its own firmware.

Furthermore, it is impossible to accidentally install the incorrect firmware on a camera. The camera will verify the upgrade package and skip the install if it is not correct.

Hi Malk, I looked at your frames, here's one of them with Legacy and IPP2:

Didn't see anything crazy, but generally speaking you'll see more saturation with IPP2 compared to some of the Legacy Color Spaces.

Got an email from support last night saying the random unmountable SSD issue is NOT fixed even though it is listed as a fix. I did have half a day without ssd failures. Then sure enough...today..plenty of random unmountable ssds.

This must be one of REDs top priorities as not having media available is a bit of a killer on set..and making the RED brand look a little unsafe.

This bug has persisted for a long time. I sometimes wonder what Jarred does when he`s out shooting himself furiously removing mags and trying others till one works. Or David Fincher..."hey David, give it a moment." "Lets try another mag David". "Hey Mr Michael Bay, dont set off that series of explosions just yet, the random dismount bug has returned"

Just want to make sure - now on the Mg with the 4K proxies, I see the output is DragonColor2/Log3G10 even when I have my settings at DragonColor2/RG4. That's correct for what's being burned to the ProRes files?

Yes, I don't see it when I'm recording, I just find the notification a bit distracting when you're framing/composing a shot. I wish there was a way to turn it off

Ed, are you still having these issues? been wanting to update but if there are any issues i rather just wait till fix. Anyone else here having issues with the new firmware and raven?

Yes got the unmount ssd problem 120gb today....then tried several times and works...weird! (happened after firmware update!)

This firmware is incredible. Being able to see fully in camera what I'm expecting in post is truly amazing. Thank you so much for the update!

Just for notetaking - I am currently getting a Proxy Record Error when doing R3D + 2k baked ProRes LT...and I'm getting a Startup Error which forces me to shut the camera down and requests I send a log file to the team. Ticket and log files have been sent.

It is very frustrating to read "it would only require them to add back a few lines of code to their firmware". As you can imagine, in this IPP2 version of firmware, there is a shit ton of code behind the scenes. Would you guys be okay if we crippled some of that to go back to our prior gen protocols to support a product that is not a RED approved product? That is very myopic.

You cannot praise us for innovating, yet there being shock and dismay when a third-party product RED never approved (ie, including providing our communication protocols) loses functionality.

So how does the new code improve my life? Because as far as I can tell the only thing it does is take away functionality I had before to replace it with, at best, the same functionality but implemented differently for the sake of being different. I'm not looking for "Innovation" in my battery % protocol. Before whatever code was running told me the % and now it tells me nothing.

The features that do actually add value such as IPP2 and ISO actually *did* implement LEGACY modes! It's not accurate to say you have to change protocols to innovate. You're offering a false dichotomy. There are standards and there are defacto standards. A huge portion of RED customers use WC hardware. Whether you like or not, that customer base represents an unofficial standard that you should be conscientious of. Regardless of what wooden camera did, I'm still a RED customer. It's incredibly disrespectful in my opinion to dismiss the trouble this causes because a sizable plurality of your customers are using an undocumented standard. If there were 10 guys who cooked their own solution up then I can understand dismissing their needs but WC probably makes up a plurality of of the V-Mounts out there.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for your interest.
I was talking about the New IPP2 vs the older one, not about legacy.

You can see the difference here :
