  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Leica M Mount

Mark is a cool dude and he knows his stuff, he gave us the grand tour at this years NAB :) Thanks guys!

OK.. I just unbanned Sanjin... someone let him know. He will be happy with this..

Although the credit for really making me green light this mount is Mark Read from Pier 59, who begged me for this back in April and kept beeping me every week till I agreed :)
Thanks Jarred. You know, he is like a sort of RED family's mascot... :-)

Once I found this definition here, I hope he won't mind with the nick. But this should give to him more responsibility in his posting. He must know he can bring some misinformation (= damage to all of us who have placed our money in this project/company) to people with lack of better information with his POVs, eccentric ones, at times, to say the least ;)

The Zeiss Ikon lenses in the M mount are good too.

Specific information about effective flange focal length or basic distances to that front baffle on the EPIC and Scarlet-X would be very handy.

How does this compare with the Spacecam M plate/mount?

Cheers,

(and thanks Jarred)

Eric

Oh man, it looks wonderful.
Does anybody know where I can modify my Canon 0,95 to a Leica mount?

I Leica very much... my bank account not so much.

To people familiar with Leica lenses, what are the benefits of these lenses?

The look of the pictures they produce, it's the main reason people buy expensive lenses, the pictures look better.

Leica glass has a particular fill to it, nor cold nor warm, Sharp, detailed deep and contrasty images always emerge out of pictures taken using Leica glass, this and the fact that they are carefully built
with reduced artifacts, when compared to Canon, Nikon, and even MF glass from Hassy, makes the Leica glass the most desirable in the industry, and reason why people go out of their way to be
able to use them on just about any camera by any Adaptor's means... ;)

How ironic, a old lens camera concept, comes back to life with a new generation of cameras (EVIL), which do not need optical VF. Hence why are we having this gap limitation between lens and sensor? I am no expert in lens knowledge, but i am glad RED has done this. The leica M lens really punch above their size. But it's a shame that the short lens with protruding back can't be used. The leica M lens and RED epic in concept, twins. In South East Asia, we call it , chili padi . Small but really HOT.

Hey KETCH? now we can have a shoot out - Leica m 50mm summilux f1.4 asph vs Leica Summilux-C 50mm T1.4 . Baby Vs Boy , just for the heck of it. hehe . mechanics and movement aside. :)

One thing to be aware of with rangefinder glass is that you may see colour shifts at the edges of the frames with the wider lenses. The M9 compensates for this in camera and also has a specific sensor that tilts the micro lenses at the edges. The issue is simply that the exit pupil of the lens is so close to the film plane that the light rays are not tele centric like an SLR lens.

So the wide lenses may cause colour shifts and perhaps corner blurring.

On the other hand there are some wonderful vintage LTM lenses. The old Canon RF are beautiful in character and Voightlander have a lovely range of affordable leica glass. Their 12mm is really nice. I use these lenses on sony NEX cameras for stills and the occasional hard to get video shot in tight places. Lovely small combination.

cheers

Thanks Jarred for unbanning me and I'm back now.

Also thank you all RedUser guys for your support to get me back here.

Immediately must say that I very excited about that Leica M mount for Epic M+X and Scarlet X.

Then must add that I'm trilled with Scarlet X specs and prices and will order a package as soon my bank get green light after all that European Debt Crisis mess...

As Jarred mentioned above professional photographer like Mark Read from Pier 59 desperately wanted to have opportunity to work with high quality Leica M glass.

Keep in mind that Carl Zeiss and Voigtländer Cosina both have very attractive sets of Leica M lenses (called Carl Zeiss ZM Lenses) and Voigtländer Cosina Rangefinder.

My suggestion about Leica M for Epic you can read here at this tread>>>

Hopefully Dragon sensor upgrade will come approximatelly in time frame 9 to 12 months from now

that means RED could solve that kind of intruding lens back issue of wider Leica M lenses with the new redesign of sensor's front hole (maybe my terminology here is wrong)...
