I'd love to check out the RCX Beta.

So, to put it in very simple terms, this is basically working as a noise reduction piece of software to be used in post. Is that a correct assesement?
Seems so...
so there won't be a firmware fix to get rid of the red noise at the time of capture?
This is the official fix?

also curious about this, did somthing change incamera also? What if i would want to record direct to prores with an external recorder, would i have the same amount of noise?
And also when can we expect a release version with dragoncolor and redgamma4?

To be honest, it's great there is DEB now. But it's getting too complicated with DEB, ADD, and all kinds of stuff people have to learn about. My clients who render stuff hardly understand redcine, the less options the easier for them.
I think it would be better to not even mention DEB, and integrate it in the firmware updates and rcx (and maybe make it a small menu preferences option to turn off) Just to keep stuff simple :)

Graeme took the red channel code and put it in RCX... much better that way... as it remains upgradable over time and works with existing footage already shot with Dragon and the new OLPF. The power of RAW.

i guess will be available on SDK as well ?

also, will be ON by default or as an option to be turned ON/OFF ? (wondering because of the Phil post (that mention ON or OFF , rather than OLD/NEW RCX )

thanks

This is a nice option, thanks for the hard work.

I do agree with the point of keeping things simple, however. I'd be interested in learning what the practical reasons would be for disabling Dragon Enhanced Blacks?

I'm not sure when 1.3x Anamorphic de-squeeze was added to the epic firmware but today was a great day to find it. Lovely with my Hawk V-Lite 1.3x

Cheers!

Thank you soo much for the hard and brilliant work, Greame and RED! How did you do this without touchinging the overall red colors (In Phils second picture you can see that the red tone of the chromatic effect in the highlight stays the same)? very nice!

The overall picture after DEB looks a bit sharper too me, right? That shows that its a very different approach then a post noise reduction, Daniel. (Phil also mentioned, that it happens in realtime! I love it!)

And thank you Phil and John for your steady help on this forum! You guys rock!

if you push saturation, you see the improvement very well, good job ...
if you do a light curve, it´s a clean black.
when can we have the new Redcine ?

Casey, this is pure speculation, but if the shot has plenty of light, like daylight for instance, it's possible we wouldn't want to "clean it up" by using DEB.

Also, I'm wondering if having DEB on changes the highlights in any way?

I didn't think about the noise reduction NOT being available to external recorders. Hmmmm...bummer as we were looking at switching to a prores workflow for a project.

I wonder if this is a permanent fix or a fix to get something out to users?

I do agree the Red ecosystem doesn't need more complexity so DEB ideally wouldn't be an option.

I hope Elsie speculation is incorrect and DEB only affects bottom end. I suppose this shows we need more info with this release.

The power of RAW...keeps getting better.

BTW I was emailed the Fletcher Camera Chart and they rate Dragon at 13.5 stops, whereas all Alexa are rated at 14 or 14+ stops, along with the F65.

For you Stacey anything :)

Here's a sample laid out in an easier to A/B sort of way.

When I saw this test Phil, I thought... weeeeeelllllll....... somethings going on in there, but it looks so marginal, who's really going to notice the change.

My question is, when you start pushing the shot around in grade, is there going to be any noticeable attributes. ?

So I did my trusty torture test to see if what ever the change was, was it actually noticeable?

BOOM!!!!!! MOST CERTAINLY IS !!!

Just curious why there is a DEB on and a DEB off switch? ... what ever DEB is, turn it on, leave it on and throw away the on and off button.

Great examples Mark. This seems like something that will make Dragon footage suitable for exhibiting even beyond 4k without much post work being done.

First ADD and now DEB. I'm starting to love acronyms!
