  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Beta Build v6.2.3 - This is a good one.

... I somehow have a feeling this is already realized in some ways. For example, accessories like the SH and Mounts have their own firmware.

true that. Though I don't know if the parts itself have their own firmware because they need to have their own controllers or because it makes for a lighter weight system if you don't use these parts. I suspect the former.

Out of principle I never install beta-builds, when might we expect a release build on this?

Major changes under the hood, always require a solid beta test period. It could take a few weeks so enough people get time to use it in various shooting / post situations and report any issue that was overlooked during the alpha testing stage.

Only playing with it as much as you can between paid shoots and reporting any issue can help get it to release status sooner.

The boot time is great, 19-20sec on the scarlet D.
But I lost the stabilization on my Canon 28mm.
Hi Sam,
Sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your SCARLET DRAGON and Canon 28mm.
Could you please submit a Technical Support request on SUPPORT.RED.COM with additional lens model information as well as the log file from your camera? We would like to get this information to our Engineers for further analysis.

- Brad

When I've run a beta build on a production I put a release build on a 64GB RedMag (that I don't use) in case something goes wrong that way i'm covered.

Always a smart idea... or if you don't have a spare red mag for this, I keep all past firmware releases on a thumbdrive in my camera kit. I've never had to roll back on a shoot yet, but it's good to be prepared!

Done.
I follow some forums about glitches and crashes on Mac + Nvidia card & CUDA + Adobe & Davinci. Hundreds of people on these forums, so probably thousands everywhere, are waiting for a solution for almost 2 years. Nobody care @Apple, Nvidia etc.
I just described a problem on our camera a few hours ago and Red is already taking care of it.
Insane. Thanx Brad.

Log3G12 is a wide dynamic range log space we're using to support HDR output, either on camera with the HDR-2084 or via the REDCast Module where the input REC2020/Log3G12 data is mapped to SMPTE2084.

Is this a RED-specific mapping, or will it go into standardized workflows.
Haven't looked at it yet, but sounds very interesting.

It is one of those see-saw battles... The engineers knock a second off and they get all excited and they have a little dance party but then I go in and ask for a bunch of new stuff and that takes away half a second and then you guys speak up and ask for a bunch more stuff and it gets added and it just keeps netting zero..... until the Engineers lock the door, dig really deep and make huge breakthroughs like they did with this build.

I am not sure if we will ever get to 6 seconds.. that sounds impossible to me. And of course different cameras do different things so it is all relative. Every camera received a whole lot of seconds chopped off with this one, but out of all of them Raven actually showed the quickest boot time improvements with this build.

Which is incredible because we also added a shit-ton of new stuff in this build on top of the optimizations.

This stuff ins't easy. Today is one of those days where I just sit back in my chair, look up to the heavens and thank whoever is up there for giving RED the best fucking engineers on the planet.

Huzzah and well done!! Congrats to the Engineering team for hammering on this one.

Can anyone in Red please chime in on the open gate support

Matt already commented on this:

It's similar to what we have for RED One.

The camera will allow you to run the preview rate on the LCD/EVF at twice the recorded rate (up to 30 fps). It's useful for removing the distracting monitor stutter at lower frame-rates. We'll have the guide updated shortly.

Guys, also check our Ops Guides on RED.com. My guess is a lot of questions on new featrures and such are answered there. Guides for:

* EPIC/SCARLET
* WEAPON
* RCX Pro
This build is awesome, got it installed and working after ... LOL ... I went back and downloaded the manuals. So much new stuff, I got a new camera! Also impressed how my fairly old epic modules have upgraded perfect, that is a amazing trick in itself to have such old pieces work perfectly on my newer dragon. I btw needed to upgrade to the production 6.0.40 before I upgraded to the beta (I have my testing epic for practicals, and hadn't upgraded it for a long time ... so ran into problems going straight to the beta).

Wow, just wow. You never see updates rolled out like this with any other manufacturer. Only a year into red ownership and consistently amazed.

In addition, applying a BS cal map does not show in the system status (at least with FW6.0.x). The system status shows only the BS calibration that was when the camera was started. Even only changing from user cal map to factory (or vise versa), the system status does not change correspondingly.

I noticed this, too, a few upgrades ago. It still persists, and on all of our cameras. I know that my black cal is loading because the "E" will turn yellow or red if I change the calibration without changing the exposure time. But the system status never changes from the factory setting calibration.

argh. i am so excited about the potential of this upgrade, but i am now suffering the exact same issues as John, nothing on my RED PRO LCD, I also tried pluggin in an HDMI in the back and nothing there. Did anyone find some help/a solution for this? Should i try and re-install the firmware again....very wary of doing things that will damage these amazing machines..

Sorry, forgot to quote Maik. But if anyone has had similar issues with no LCD working after upgrade please shout out.
Have you tried to disconnect and reconnect the LCD-cable after bootup has finished? It almost fixes all LCD-hickups for me, especially those split-screen-moments.

Just out of curiosity. What was the last firmware you had installed before trying 6.2.3 and what do you currently use? If it's not the latest final build (6.0.40) i would suggest to flash this one first and then try the 6.2.3 again. I also would set the LCD to 30hz and disable HDMI/SDI before upgrading. Maybe make a factory reset on 6.0.40.
