  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Beta Build v6.2.3 - This is a good one.

>>Weapon OLPFs aren't showing up in the .R3D metadata. Is this corrected via firmware or REDCINE-X PRO/SDK?

The OLPF was recorded to the .R3D metadata, it wasn't being shown in RCX. We've corrected a flag in firmware that will allow RCX to display it.

Wow! Massive update and I can test this out right now.

I have a quick question.

Weapon OLPFs aren't showing up in the .R3D metadata. Is this corrected via firmware or REDCINE-X PRO/SDK?

I believe those Zeiss 50mm and 85mm updates are the new Milvus lenses. Thank you for that! Especially the 15mm support as well.

Very curious to see these monitor improvements. And thank you, thank you, thank you for the HDR Gamma Spaces. I literally was at the SMPTE Conference yesterday and had all sorts of things in my noggin.

Thanks Matthew!

Can you explain what's "Open Gate" support means?

Does it give additional sensor area??

Or does it emulate the sensor area of the Alexas in Open Gate mode?

Mikael,

does this mean we can now send and receive files like 3D Luts, settings and RMDs directly to the camera using RCP commands???

Yes. Our updated iPad app (which at the time of this writing is still pending approval) uses this feature to show thumbnails in playback on the iPad as well as allow the user to transfer Presets, Looks, 3D LUTS, Overlays, etc between the camera and iPad.

Thank you Matthew. Noticed this in my first two in depth camera tests and got a couple calls about it. Good to hear.

It's similar to what we have for RED One.

The camera will allow you to run the preview rate on the LCD/EVF at twice the recorded rate (up to 30 fps). It's useful for removing the distracting monitor stutter at lower frame-rates. We'll have the guide updated shortly.

Yes, that's meant to be BT1886. The HDR2084 and BT1886 modes go together. They're "matched" in that if you put the HDR2084 on a display accepting the SMPTE2084 standard and the BT1886 output to your typical SDR display, you get an image that is essentially the same, other than on the HDR the highlights just keep going up....

You know what I love? That we ask for stuff and Red listens—except they don't just give us what we ask for... They give us way better stuff, things we haven't even thought of yet. Reminds me of the Apple from a certain time period.

Well done!

Yes! Thank you for this!

Whoa, so even Mysterium-X cameras got a boot-time reduction?! <TomWaits>Bonus.</TomWaits>

Anyone test a Scarlet-X yet?

Wow ... that's way better then I was hoping for!

I think RED's psychic, I was just asking for this in a thread 3 days ago ;) Actually what I love is being on the coat tails of so many great DP's, and getting what they are asking for at almost the same time.

lots of old new cameras being delivered tonight.

Wow, half the boot time. Excellent. Thanks for keep working!

"* Low Latency monitor feature"

What's this all about? Improving latency on the HDMI and SDI ports possibly?

Looks like a great build!

Jarred, do you have a theoretical best case scenario of what the fastest possible boot time might be? Epic was at one time around 10-12 seconds. Is that the fastest you'll ever achieve or do you think it might be possible to get even quicker boot times? 10 seems like it would cover most types of production, while 6-8 would be killer but perhaps simply not possible with everything that is going on under the hood.

Blackshading seems to be much faster and the interface has been modified... Boot time on my Scarlet Dragons were 22.9 seconds and 22.4 seconds. Very cool!

It is one of those see-saw battles... The engineers knock a second off and they get all excited and they have a little dance party but then I go in and ask for a bunch of new stuff and that takes away half a second and then you guys speak up and ask for a bunch more stuff and it gets added and it just keeps netting zero..... until the Engineers lock the door, dig really deep and make huge breakthroughs like they did with this build.

I am not sure if we will ever get to 6 seconds.. that sounds impossible to me. And of course different cameras do different things so it is all relative. Every camera received a whole lot of seconds chopped off with this one, but out of all of them Raven actually showed the quickest boot time improvements with this build.

Which is incredible because we also added a shit-ton of new stuff in this build on top of the optimizations.

This stuff ins't easy. Today is one of those days where I just sit back in my chair, look up to the heavens and thank whoever is up there for giving RED the best fucking engineers on the planet.

Hahah, it's funny, because I feel like this happens with everything (the "two-steps forward" celebration being slightly nullified by the "one-step back" requests)...
