  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Backplate

I think plastic would do just fine. But who knows, aluminum could be great too. I'd be happy to test some protos for you :)

I would be fine with high strength plastic.

I like the idea of not leaving the camera connectors naked. You could call it a Modesty Plate. Or maybe Epic Underpants. ;-D

Hi Dave,
I think plastic is fine. My priorities (in order) would be: 1)it seals the back from dust and the occasional water spray, not just velcroed on; 2)easy to take on and off; 3)can't fall off; 4)lightweight; 5)inexpensive. I don't need to it to be super beautiful or styled. Functional.
thanks!
Dan

I got one word for you son....plastic

Agree 100% here. Functional, cheap, light. Plastic is the way to go, IMO.

Under $100 for sure. I dunno. If wooden camera can make an Easy plate for $49, I gotta believe a plastic backplate shouldn't cost that much. But what do I know?

Cool ... I am in the ballpark with my pricing of thought then. just working out some numbers and hope to get some working protos by Monday.

Hi Dave,
I'd agree US$50-$100 would be inexpensive and fair (since the market for these is not that large). One possible idea (for which you could charge a fair bit more): allow an option for people to print things on the back, e.g.,
KANDA RIVER PRODUCTIONS
A CAM
etc. Could even do logos I suppose...
