  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC-2, The Weapon, The Scarlet-W and the Raven and the improvements that they bring.

Yeah, I think many people in the industry doesn't realize how good it is to have this type of open community and communication. Doing so many things in post production I'm involved with a lot of companies from Adobe to Avid etc. and the one thing that makes their software hamstrung is their inability to have direct communication with the users. They all have highly expensive "support"-plans but they're all so kafkaesque and filled with know-nothing personal that in the end people starts abandoning their software in order to get something that works for them. It's not just the Red cameras that are progressive in it's tech, it's the whole business attitude and being open to the community that stands out as being much more progressive than other companies.

oh loooord, kum-bay-ah! awesome to hear you say so.

they have bailed me out a couple of times with well-built and much needed accessories which were not available elsewhere. they've been very good to your customers over the long haul. and are bailing me out as we speak, again, by hooking me up with some much-needed Weapon bits.

Got to say... I am also happy about this Jarred,

Met Ryan and his wife back when I first did the USA road trip on M8... Was their guest and sow first hand what they where up to before the all issue started...

I stopped buying their gear because the deep respect I have for RED, He understood...

Now I'll buy again from them and makes me happy to support both you and them two of my most favorite companies!!

Well I must say there is something very organic to that picture (no pun intended). I wasn't interested in the 8k sensor until now... I presume, more than depth of field, it must be due to the smaller noise that gives some life to the picture in a very natural way.

Glad to hear this. Ryan and WC are local to me here in Dallas. He's always been super helpful - even letting me come up to the shop to ask questions and see what they're working on for last year's NAB. I got most of my Scarlet accessories from them - great work/quality and good prices. I highly recommend them.

also, ill be wanting a s35 or fullframe sensor at 4.5k (decent 4k ioversample). i don't want sensor sizes that are neither this, nor that.
just don't want more pixels, bigger files, higher datarates. id prefer bigger photosites, and a cleaner image getting compressed at the datarates we currently have access to

weapon offers very little to me, except to flag the future of staying with red..increasingly expensive . if I can upgrade to "whatever comes after weapon" from my dragon..
we might have a future doing business, but the track as its laid out doesn't go to a destination I'm prepared to keep paying for, and the math just doesn't add up

I'm sorry to read that. It looks like you aren't well informed by the path RED is taking. Weapon wasn't quite a surprise as it was announced more than a year ago and Dragon is on air since more than 2 years. Enough time to get RoI on an electronic device.

Why do you speak about the fans? Wich Fans? The weapon ones or the Epics one? If you want a good sound for the epic there are options out there, make a research. Often people (sound people) complain about the fans noise but the are not willing to make a google search some are kind of lazy. Bad professionals.

You know, there is a basic division of modules, which people keep arguing with me about.

First is the head, because you can sell a head POV or put a all in one drone back end module on it, or stills or prosumer camcorder or Eng shoulder body on it. It may include compression.

The next division is the body, for storage, compression, and extra controls and interfacing, it may have swappable cards/core for processing. The core could be something small that can be used as a handheld on it's own. A shoulder enclosure just allows you to put the head in it with heaps of storage, battery, options etc in it. The core adding a grip body body makes it a stills, adding another grip makes it a camcorder. The core itself may have all the necessary controls and interfaces on it, with the grip being more passive holders with extra battery or storage space and maybe ebrn controls (zoom, focus, aperture, gain etc).

The last is display. Some bodies come with detachable repositionable display.

Something like that. I'm not well and can't remember. But you can swap sensor, processing, controls and interfacing, or display interdependently. Daughter panels can have interfaces and I or controls and be replacable. Anything past that is optional stuff only some people need, and those optional modules would have everything related to the option needed. Now, you buy a camera head body and display, with power source, click them together in a few seconds, and turnnonbsnd use as a all in one package. Those that have other needs plug in the all in one extra module for those needs, turn on and start using. Not bits and pieces stacks of modules.

The division groups all common module needs into super modules based on practical divisions of upgradability, reducing the costs compared to many fine grained modules. It's also more sturdy.

Yes! Fantastic improvement! The little things go so far sometimes. backfocus adjustment on a caged Epic body wasn't exactly a good time.
