  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DRAGONolor2 and REDcolor4 Beta and the H20 underwater OLPF

Thanks Micheal for your R3D,

PS : I miss the RG3 in the new RCX Beta build 33.35971

RG3 is still there. You have to enable the old color/gamma spaces. Go to preferences, and select the checkbox for show advanced controls. Voila.

Are there any MX w/RC4 vs. MX w/RC3 vs MX w/DC2 vs. MX w/DC1 comparison examples posted?

(Sorry, I can't beta it at the moment, but the curiosity is killin' me.)

Pure greens appear to go slightly brighter. Blues appear to go a bit darker and more rich. I'm pretty pleased. I still would love to see some more aggressive filmic options out of the camera but this is a good improvement on DC/RC3. It removes most of the "RED Camera Haze" that ruined even the bluest of clear sky days.

Old shot on MX:

Gavin is that RC4 or DC2 compared to RC3 or DC1?

Also, do you have a higher (full res) jpg online somewhere?

Gavin, what's causing the checkerboard background in the sky portion of the shot. Looks like an opacity issue.

heh, that's the comparison (or were you being sarcastic?)

Heh, heh... not sarcastic... just unawares. '-)

Great way to show the difference.

Ha, yes that's the comparison, not a render glitch. Sorry, I forgot that lighting/rendering TDs are pretty much the only people who use a checker for comparison. It's a good static method though to see frame-wide subtle shifts in brightness and color.

Specifically it's RC4/RC3. DragonColor 2 was imperceptibly different from RC4 on that shot. (Which isn't surprising since it's an MX frame not Dragon. I don't have any Dragon R3Ds on my home system)

Hi Rob and Eric,

Just following up to see if there has been an update to the FCPX crashes that are happening now due to the beta software. We installed it on our end, and ever since installation we have had nonstop crashes every few minutes. We went back to the prior release version of the software, but unfortunately that did not help with our crashes.

The crash log reads, 'FCP quit unexpectedly while using the RED plug-in.'

Thoughts? Thanks

Nathan,

We are looking at it now.

As for crashing with the previous version -- that shouldn't be the case. Please email me at redcinex at red and I can walk you through manually removing the plugin.

Thanks,
David

How's everybody liking the new firmware, stability-wise?

Gavin, I know in the past you've mentioned monitor issues on power-up. I've always had that happening w/ Dragon. Have your issues been resolved?

I haven't had it happen since November. But I have had it happen on the latest stable firmware.
