I have shot, in the last 34 years, countless films on film stock, Sony and Panasonic cameras, Red One, the Epic and last week for the first time on my new CF Dragon.
To say I am blown away is an understatement. No other camera system (film or Digital) has put such a smile on my face. Ever.
Very serious congratulations to Jim, Jarred, Graham and all the other people involved in bringing the Dragon to market.
Stop pixel peeping and go and shoot some proper films guys. You will be blown away.

I agree. Fixating on one trait of the Dragon rather than celebrating the entire Holistic Dragon image-maker is what it must feel like to have tunnel vision.

just totally agree. Geek time is over, let the filmmaking begin!

Stop evaluating your tools guys! Real DPs don't ever shoot camera/film stock tests! Just fly blind and have fun! Wooo! Why are we spending so much time talking about cameras and camera workflows on a camera forum?

Real DPs don't require 60 days or so of discussion to evaluate their tools. '-)

ran into a guy wearing this T-Shirt today... altho it was a 'Manchester United' shirt I found it quite appropriate (in my case at least)...

Manchester United is probably not the best example as of lately haha- total screwup last season...

You cant understand why there is discussion? You toss your fedora into just about every conversation.

I would be a heel to tell you to do otherwise.

If I do (and I probably do) it's to point out that people who complain, which is their right, continue to complain ad nauseam. That gets so tiring that I can't contain myself, which puts me in the same category as the complainers, for complaining about their complaining.

So yes, I'm part of the problem. But at least I recognize that. '-)

Most Epics haven't been upgraded yet. So it shouldn't be surprising that individuals trickle in over time as they receive their cameras and test them. Also real DPs don't read REDuser for the most part so they are completely unaware that it's been talked to death.

This is the same reason we get a new "Wow I love my Dragon" and "Wow the Dragon is noisy" post every single day.

I really don't object to someone reporting their Dragon is noisy.

What I am trying to balance out are the posters who go from thread to thread angrily stating that as more of a rant than as constructive information. I am a positive person as a rule and a believer that there are many paths to creating good imagery, vis a vis the Dragon.

I'm sure it's a generational thing. My generation was taught "no excuse, Sir!" while the younger generations seem to have more people in it that subscribe to "this is not what I want... give me what I want and give it to me now!"

I hope this helps explain my motivations... and helps make me look like less of a villain.

Your not a villain. But you do realise your posts help keep the conversation going? You are oxygen to a fire. I know this is the exact 100% opposite of what you want.

People will vent, complain and then it will die down. If you let it.

hey gavin,

You got me.

I'm taking that as my cue to check off of reduser for a while.

thanks for the reminder.

Cheers gang!

I take a different view. That is, I feel if a balancing position isn't taken someone impressionable might see the negative view being unchallenged as admission it is accurate. Then they go on the web and repeat that disinformation.

This isn't just RED's reputation we are talking about. It is a defense of my cameras and their reputation.

David, I don't think Gavin meant to imply that there were no real DPs on REDuser. '-)

Well as long as you realise you "challenging" people with complaints is keeping those threads at the very top of Reduser for all the "impressionable" people to see.

If someone really wanted to do deliberate harm to Reds reputation they would of course love it when you post to challenge a user with a problem thus keeping the conversation going.

Fair point... but at least they are seeing my rebuttal first. '-)

Besides, as Gavin says, these are not Real DPs reading this stuff.

They are reading your rebuttal. Correct. But the good that rebuttal does Red is far, FAR outweighed by the complaints you are drawing attention to.

Threads full of complaints would fall off the main page far quicker if conversation was left to run its course without "rebuttals".
