  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

That's how I understood it so far as well. Sorry if my words indicated a different idea. Soon things will be unveiled, latest at NAB.

I am not certain. I have not followed that one too closely. Minimag seems like a normal progression.

Thank you Elsie!!!
yeah if it is mechanical and made well it lasts...
I just thought to throw it in here - being patient is not such a bad idea and may save money- not to mention stress and headaches- and that's real value in my book!!!
Nothing wrong with additional information before making an informed decision.

still, I do hope this makes some hesitate so I can get in line ahead of them. '-)

Now the questions:
1. I have a brand new 7" Touch, several OLED EVFs, Switchblade, Redlink, Sidehandles, Redmote, several PL and Canon Ti mounts etc. I want to know if there will be any issues with these accessories with Weapon.
2. I have a less than a week old PV Binary distribution box for pet Dragon from Element Technica which provides 2 xSDI, Dual Anton Bauer Hot Swap, Sync, TC, Start/Stop and a whole lot of ports for powering accessories. Will it work with Weapon?

1.) The 7" (and presumably older 5" and non-touch) and Bomb OLED (and presumably LCOS) will require an adapter lemo. Apparently there's a new sidehandle, so presumably the old one (and Switchblade) won't work. No word on Redmote/Redlink, but because there is a different pin-out on the back of the brain, I'm guessing they won't work. And the lens mounts have been said to work.

2.) Not sure; what connection/port does it use?

I'm planning to stick with the mags I got until I upgrade or until I know more about what the deal is since I don't know if the EPIC Dragon mini mag module is compatible with the Weapon Dragon. With the R1 MX the side modules were not compatible to EPIC. We don't know how much the body style has changed. I guess the safest purchase is media and a minimag reader since that will work going forward.

That's pretty much what I'm going to do. Stick with my 2x 512GB and 2x 128GB 1.8" until the upgrade. Also gonna put a hold on any further purchases. Was considering the new 7" Touch but now I'm going to wait and see what is compatible with Weapon... and also save my pennies for the Carbon upgrade.

Jarred,

Back in Dec. you posted a photo of Sean R. wearing a shirt with "87 days" on it, was that in reference to a certain date pertaining to weapon? If so what date?

I don't know if this has been asked and answered a thousand times already, but will the current mini-mag side ssd module module be compatible with the weapon. i.e. is it worth the upgrade now?

The MINI-MAG Side SSD Module that is available for Mysterium-X and Dragon won't work with Weapon due to the rather different form factor. However, the MINI-MAGs will work just fine.

Hi Jarred,

Thanks for the great gesture of dropping to EPIX X upgrade price back to USD9500.

I want to know if I take theEPIC X to Dragon upgrade and pay for the upgrade price and for the time being do not send the camera for upgrade.
and after NAB I again take the upgrade to Weapn for the same camera. Is it possible to get the upgrade from EPIC X TO DRAGON and then to weapon
upgrade at one go as then I do not have to send the camera twice for upgrade where we generally loose around 30 days .

Did I miss the answer to this???

To add to that, the existing MINI-MAG Side SSD module will be part of the weapon upgrade if you send in your dragon.

Hasn't been answered yet.
You can pay for the upgrade and not send it in before NAB. That will count as having purchased the dragon. And then you can see what's what.

Biggest problem will be that : since RED will close the MX/DRAGON upgrade line around June, how safe is it to assume you can get the WEAPON upgrade by then?! Given the fact that there will be a whole bunch of carbon upgrades first and so on, I wouldn't bet on it.
What do I mean: it's highly unlikely that having both in one go is feasible.
