Dragon Update

Hi Jarred,

as I was one of the first Scarlet Users, who decided to go for Dragon, this is a kick in the ass (excuse my english). As far as I know the Dragon update costs even more from Scarlet to Dragon then Epic to Dragon.

I feel now, like a second class customer.

Last week I got contacted by Red telling me, that it will take time to deliver for Dragon and offered me buying an epic instead. Well I conciously decided for Scarlet. And I am patient. But I do not have an understanding, that you don't deliver to customers in the row of purchase, and that you are prefering Epic customers over Scarlet customers.

I bought 2 Scarlets, meaning I got you more money than an Epic customer, who bought one.

So as the delivery times are unclear - I am completely lost. Or is the idea, that I as a Scarlet User rent an Epic Dragon from a guy who decided later than me for the product ?

Nice feeling.

Sorry to be not constructive and being pleased about the great work you are doing, as I am the one who gets it as one of the last ones in the queue, but who entered the queue early !

Great work Jared and RED Team.
While you still have the dragons unleased, one thing I really wish for you guys to look into is high speed bursts.
If there is any way possible to shoot even just for a second of duration really high framerates at FF. I do know nothing about the build of these cameras but I'm guessing that you have a ram buffer in between the SSD and the sensor, so basically if that could be filled really quickly and then when filled up copied over to the SSD.

Reason for asking is that we are developing a super fast motion control rig that is totally dedicated to the epic. i.e weight constrains make it not suitable for Phantom 4k or such and getting high speed busts into the mix would be a killer....

Just a thought.... Is there anyway i can trade my other Epic X in for a Carbon Dragon as well?

+1 for this

Does it make a difference to have your dragon order prepaid as opposed to having it just placed? When we placed it we were never asked to pre pay it. Now I'm wondering if we did it wrong.
Sorry Manfred, didn't mean to scare you ;)
No, it shouldn't make a difference, other than not losing any time with the wire transfer once the camera is ready.

Thanks for letting us know the plan!

Thank you for the update looking forward to the Dragon

Okay, I have a 5am question. I just dug up the email we got when we ordered the Dragon upgrade. It says: " [...] Please note that both of these 2x pre-orders, # SO-xxxxxx & SO-xxxxxxxx, have now been confirmed and placed in our system. Once these 2x orders become allocated, I will be sure to contact you back in regards to collecting payment. Once full payment is received, we will provide additional instruction for sending in your EPIC."

So... My question is, if 'become allocated' means your turn is up, then how does one prepay the dragon sensor like a couple of people have done? And does it make any difference in determining your place in the cue? Or are we sitting on an empty pre-order without a turn because someone forgot to email us back to prepay? (I hope not).

Ah, THANK YOU, for answering! I was starting to have sudden doubts. It is way past my bedtime.

EDIT:

What threw me off was the use of the words 'pre-order' and 'order' in the same email. My sudden nightmare was to be somehow caught in a Dantesque limbo between these two nether worldly stages... Something like having forgotten to press the very last button on your way to heaven.

Just have your funds pre-transferred in to your RED account, that way you'll save the extra days that would take for the funds to be transferred once you got that email.

Stop me from buying a phantom 4k.
High speed bursts would be a very beneficial ad on.

Yea, pretty comical! It was your BTS pics from your It's Just Paint shoot that whipped me into a frenzy! I'm sure my posts shooting with the Dragon I have on hand now is similarly inspiring some emptying of wallets!

And so the Dargon roll-out snowballs on!

Thanks Jarred and Red team!

I almost did the carbon dragon deal, but decided against it.
I have to many epics now... and another one would be just a waste.
So instead I bought myself something else made of carbon as an early christmas Present. :)
