Dragon Update

Heard a Rumor users have got their first Dragon sensor today... any truth?

Got couple of emails about this... I have not said any were that M8 was Dragon upgraded... Even so I should have taken the DRAGON out of my signature right after NAB... But it looked to cool to remove it, and I can't find it in my heart to do it...

Okay for the sake of clarity and not mislead any one here... I have added (soon) to it till we'll actually get it upgraded... ;)

Which we surely hope will be just in time to be used in my first Movie R. O. A. B. since it will have tone of High Fashion Portrait work on set and printed for the actual Auction that will happen in the Film real time...

And 6k 20 megapixels prints will surely look better then 5k 14 megapixels prints... ;)

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but has there been any info regarding the Angenieux Optimo DP zooms' compatibility with the Dragon and/or Motion Mount? Their 16-42 and 30-80 have such deep back elements, I'm worried that those two will have issues if there's the slightest change in OLPF/sensor placement.

I'm personally considering purchasing those two lenses (or similar), but won't if there's a chance they'll be physically incompatible after we upgrade to Dragon.

Thanks!
Jacob

First where can I keep updated on the film?

Second, 6k prints will look cool as shit. So would a 6k movie. Not in 4k but 6k (although I read somewhere 4k entertainment jumps to 8k in the future for house hold products (where's the speculation about what's to come after dragon? (Didn't RED say there were two surprises down the line?(what in the world could they be?))))

Hi Kyle, thanks for your interest in my Film, here I just started a new thread about it: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...a-part-of-my-Dream-quot&p=1220981#post1220981

But following the R.O.A.B. link in my signature will also get you to the facebook page, just need to be a little more patient, as we'll need to update all pages and site as soon as we get a Web Master in our Team.

As far as print we a=have yielded excellent results with current sensor in 5k 14 megapixels, so much so that the guys would not believe me it was form the Epic at all, but trusted that they were more form a 36 megapixels cameras sensor.

So with the 6k 20 megapixels of the Dragon they will sure look awesome!! And they need to as they will all be printed full life size to replicate each of the models Filmed with, as they will stand next to their Frame grabs in the Film it self at the Grand Gala Auction scenes, so we do truly hope to be able to film with Dragon, if not Epic MX 5k will do just marvelously... ;)

What I still crave from RED after Dragon, is what I craved since the moment they announced... The 9k 80 megapixels Medium Format Sensor... Then I'll truly never miss shooting with any still cameras again, but for now I do miss my Medium Format Backs, larger sensors and 80 megapixels do give lots of data and insane prints... I believe that would be my last camera... ;)

I really hope Dragon fixes this odd Flange distance limit which they have installed into the RED epic.

Don't forget guys, this is an eighteen thousand dollar camera. RED has far exceeded this market niche, so much in fact, that we now expect them to be the world leader. Heavy burden, yet they love it.

I think the Dragon is turning out to be quite the fire breathing challenge, the expectations are almost too much, but I'll stand in the fire with these guys, as I did in 2005, I believed then and nothing has changed.

Keep up the good work guys.

7680x4320 is the 16:9 8k UHD res. wonder how that will influence future camera sensors like a 9k sensor. I would think similar to how things are now

We have been doing lens coverage test on the Dragon while we are waiting.. and lens coverage is surprisingly good so far.. Hopefully I can grab Brook Evin and Phil one of these days soon with a van full of glass so they can put together some sort of master Dragon-Lens-matrix. The specs and assumptions of coverage don't always match real life, so nothing is better than getting the actual lenses and putting them on the camera and taking a look.

Was that Dragon-Lens-matrix ever done? I have a hard time finding information these days since its sometimes scattered into sub-threads and the "search" function just gives too many results.

Also, maybe a new update is in place since it was close too two months since last update? :)

Maybe if we all start chanting DRAGON, DRAGON, DRAGON,:party:together they will break their silence...and tell us whats happening...

Ecer watch Thrones?...

OTOH, guessing Red starts shipping upgrades by next Monday.

Thank you very much

Fury

I think Red management has learned to keep their mouths shut until they are ready :)

For the best really. They will let us know when cameras are ready to ship I assume ;)

As someone who went in for the Scarlet to Epic Dragon upgrade, I'd sure love to know if I'll be waiting many months for the Dragon, since I could be out shooting with a regular Epic during that time instead (and then upgrading to Dragon when it's finally out).

We need to have patience.

In my humble opinion, RED is facing its most important release ever. Now there are many 4K cameras and 4K sensors around.
Before, with no (or little) competition, there was some leeway for incomplete releases, improvements down the road, continual color science updates etc

Now, with so many great options out there, a successful Dragon sensor out of the box is critical!

I personally want RED to take their time and deliver a winner right out of the box. They need time to make sure the launch is 100% successful.

George

Dragon will be an insanely good camera... while we wait for the 8-9k camera a year or two down the road :)

Maybe the big Dude is just around the corner, still keeping the pics and test footage as close to his chest as possible, who knows...
