  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon Update + A.D.D.

I'm just stoked, like Jarred said, every "normal" company would have saved those kind of improvements for next years new camera.
Can't wait to see what ADD does and well, i need to get my hands on a Dragon. Have to make it happen somehow asap. :)

Damn....every frame a few seconds?
Looks like I'm gonna have to upgrade my machine again.

I like the addition of a more advanced debayer. Sure wish you guys add an option for MX guys as well. Even if it does little for OLPFed cameras.
ADD reminds me of my old 6K from MX tests. Several seconds per frame is pretty fast for that stuff !

Wasn't there talk of making this the RED tagline? "It just gets better"

Kind of love it personally.

I hope not! That would make my skin crawl.

Re. The ADD... sounds interesting. Keen to see a side by side comparison with a standard debayee

Thanks Jarred,
Can not tell how stoked I am to have one of the first dragons. I was sitting up working night during nab and was sitting hammering the update button on the red.com web page. It's odd, normally buying first is just extra costs but with RED it's been the opposite.

Sadly now I'm at a shoot using the dragon as a btw camera while an MX is used for the real deal, they want matching cameras and are afraid to find the same on the next location :)

These are great times for all those who depend on and trust RED to make their creative work the very best it can be. We have all we need now to make amazing art. Let's go do it!

Thanks Jarred,

Quick question, will the new SDK with the dragon color science and GPU debayering be ready for third party software developers like Adobe to implement by the time Dragon hits the second tier?

Jarred, when do you think you will start to swap out the OLPF for those of us who have Dragon? Thank you.

ADD.

+) To create to best possible image - is there any intention to reduce chromatic aberration?
Eg By shifting each pixels RGB components XY position independently as a first step in the debayer process?

+) If the ideal Black Shade calibration improves the single frame picture quality - is there an option for RED to create a Number of factory sets as part of each camera upgrade? Down the line - and assuming there is enough EPROM space - these could all be uploaded into the camera / and an 'auto' mode select the ideal calibration before recording starts.

+) ADD sounds like a Medium network bandwidth / High CPU task ... Cloud service?
A way to distribute load over a network (Ethernet or TB2) would be useful :)

wtf...

when you think that we are almost at the limit here's the surprise ..
how can you not love this company ..
You guys are the best on the square.

Go RED GO;)

Jarred give us some more information on ADD please;) hehe

This is great news. I hope my upgrade comes by June, which is when I get a good boost financialy. My main reason to upgrade to Dragon is definitely the ability to pull print quality stills. It will be great to see the convergence of stills and movies to finally be realized. And this is liberating for an independent filmmaker/cinematographer/photographer. Can't honestly wait.
By the way, just personally ordered a Hisense 58" 680k3d tv. Its supposedly new generation. Cant wait to see my Epic MX and Dragon content in that!

ADD sounds promising....would love to know how and where it will be part of the workflow....I have to pull stills from every shoot, so this is great news....

Sounds like RED is getting closer and closer to having a theater-ready image straight out of the camera/RCX workflow. The cameras get all the notice in the other-world(non Reduser world) while RED is surreptitiously becoming a software nebula... or so it seems. I will be so happy to ADD this version of RCX to my pipeline.
