  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon Update + A.D.D.

It just keeps getting better and better! Can't wait to try this out in combination with the new OLPF and calibration.

Looks like Epic Dragon #135 is winging its way home to Japan already, with new OLPF I presume, since I asked for it to be put in.

My question is, aside from image quality, is there a way to show clients that the new OLPF is indeed installed? Like in the System Info screen or something?

Can't wait to play!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

Will this mean maybe more than 72DPI TIFF still snapshots

Battistella

I have heard this mentioned a few times.

Our snapshots have always output true pixels (as they should be), and not put in a DPI ( print output ) container.

If you are opening snapshot Tiffs in photoshop it is going to open to your screen DPI ( which default is 72dpi ) but you can change that default in your photoshop preferences under Units and Rulers.

It has no effect on the native image quality, DPI is just an output ratio for dots per inch only for print.

For example, if you are opening up your RED tiffs at 72 DPI in photoshop take a look at the image size in inches ( the only thing that matters when you use DPI ) and you will see it is something like 8 feet tall.

This sounds sick! I love it when a company you trust continually improves their product instead of sitting on their butts expecting you to give them your money. You didn't have to create ADD, but you did anyways. Now comes the hard part, waiting!

Thanks.

Yeah.. 6 months ago people were pretty happy with the Dragon if you can remember.

If we were a "normal" company we probably would of stopped there and took the list of things that still could be better and saved it for a new camera.

Saved A.D.D. Saved the new OLPF. Saved all the new calibrations and tweaks for both software and hardware.

But the IR flare thing has pissed me off forever. The moment we had it beat.. I wasn't going to let that one linger. Plus Graeme had the chance at that moment to add his tweaks to the new OLPF to make the color o so much better and man has that made a difference. Easy decision.

Seems simple to understand... just keep making things better. Isn't that why we are all here?

This is great news all over.

Dragon is such an incredible cam to use, as it is.
Something I have tried to get through since I had the prototype.

And then it improves.

As it is, there is no camera I know of which has an all over "betterness" to it, the way Dragon has.
It s truly a gify to be able to work on it.

And now it gets better.

Just got back to the ranch and read this great news.

I have to say, early whispers through the woods are all extremely happy whispers that you guys tackled the OLPF head on and so quickly. Myself certainly included in those whispers, especially after stress testing it. Massive improvement. Thank you for getting that done.

Really excited to check out the A.D.D. I enjoy seeing what I can get out of "fully processing" Dragon .R3Ds. This may take this to the next level and also really effect the feature/finish pipeline. The end of next week is indeed going to be a treat.

I always open the snapshots in Photoshop and then make them 300dpi. Thanks for explaining that though because I know I've sent a few emails through about that one.

In any case, the S and M in DSMC just got better today. :)

Thanks,

Battistella

Just curious what makes ADD better than standard debayer? Sharpness, DR, Noise, color?

The Mini-SSD Side Carbon Module has finally hit green light status and is now entering pilot run production. They should start shipping to existing Carbon Dragon owners later next month. Just for reference, it takes about 15 hours to make each Side SSD Carbon Module. They are much more complex than the normal full-size carbon SSD modules with their own integrated passive cooling system and entirely new mechanicals.

For those of us who are planning on upgrading to a carbon dragon when we upgrade the dragon, should we plan on getting a MiniSDD module and Magnesium PL mount included in the upgrade cost?

Will A.D.D be RedRocket-x accelerated?

Yes works without RRX. A.D.D is a monster. RRX can help.. but the RRX dent is small with this kinda processing.

Time for an update.

Can I trade in my brand new mini 512 SSD for one of the old 512's?

ADD sounds good to my ears, but isn't quiet the good news a producer would have expected : longer rendering time to obtain the best quality. I wonder how to sell this?
