  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DRAGON SENSOR yes or no... now or later

Also... we all just got our cameras... and now an upgrade 6k or 8k chip arrives.. do we need it just yet. If your using the RED camera for photography... YES. TV? No... , Feature film.. Maybe, but 4k is enough for that

Well, pristine supersampled 4K out is always good, right? I mean in a way Sony F65 advertises it's 4K as downsampled from 8K sensor. I guess it's done in-camera in their case. I barely can imagine editing / processing hardware for 8K images. Future, where's my flying cars and hoverboard? :)

You're assuming Dragon is about resolution.

Personally, I hope that Dragon is about latitude, lack of noise, and better color performance.

Great post Bruce!!!!

Totally agree!!!!

Considering a few "Consumer" cameras have more dynamic range than Epic now I think waiting 2 years to release a new sensor would be madness.

I'll save myself from that sort of madness and frustration getting C300 soon together with Scarlet-X and have wonderful mix of both world,

high resolution and pretty good latitude with gorgeous high ISO performance till Dragon will arrive with something probably much better.

my guess on Dragon - it will be tied in some way to whatever RED has up its sleeve on....DELIVERY!

they'll build some sort of Redray/Projector delivery system which will project some sort of never-before-seen, unbelievable image that will be even better with what Dragon can do...

and then we will all want it...

i wish, hope, for the dragon sensor...
staying a S35 sensor no matter if its 5k or 6k.
more Dynamic Range...2-3 more stops in the highlights would be nice.
more sensitivity.
ISO matches the lightmeter.
even better low light perfomance, usuable till 1250 iso.

and it can come now...my red was mx`ed 18 months ago....so new sensor would be nice.

I was hoping we'd have seen a monstro sensor about 2 years ago frankly.. which would have been about a year or more after it was announced.. i guess im impatient, greedy, or both? .. oh, and can we have a global shutter please?

..just because its red, doesn't mean its the bleeding edge..

4k downsampled from 8k should look superb. But Sony F65 isn't an 8k sensor. It's pixel count is about enough for about 5.6k, but rather too few for 8k....

I'm with Wingrove. Dragon can't come soon enough. (Not saying MX isn't brilliant... But I'd like some mo' betta to reach into the shadows with if that's in the pipe)

Monstro Hia ISO, Blacks so fresh and so clean.

Oh yeah. Bring it baby ; )

If Dragon is 6k, 36mm wide frame, bring it on! I think I'm ready to use it now... :)

As it relates to what the competition is doing... we are like the Honey Badger.

Dragon will be released when it is ready. Whether or not you want to upgrade is your choice. That is the beauty of our modular system. Upgrade only when you feel it is in your best interests.

Our job is to give you choices. And choices without you having to buy a new camera.

Cool.

And sometimes the best defense is a good offense.

Of course it only applies if another team shows up an there is an actually game being played. :)
