  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DRAGON SENSOR yes or no... now or later

The Honey Badger video is now required watching for my salesforce. How to survive in 2012....

Dear Mt Toia
STFU! :001_tt2:

I'm very ready for the Dragon.. you can stick to the regular sensor as long as you like but don't plant any seeds of delay on this project THANKS!

Plus who knows what else the Dragon will hold besides a larger sensor. like the MX there may be sensitivity or DR gains too..

So yeah STFU

love
jas

Copy that!

Ted talks about Epic playback and Dragon upgrade

Apologise Mark, I have not read the 11 pages of this thread just your opening comment. I reckon bring it on because I want the photography benefits. To the point that to purchase the camera at it's cost seems like a small step backward, more of the same or just a tiny step forward from what I currently shoot. Just not worth dropping a big wad of cash on.Red Dragon I am guessing will change that. So lets go and can then add another professional skill to the quiver. Later this years works well for me.I have been debating getting the epic x prior to the price rise so this has been a current decision. Looks like teh 5d is still there for now BUT that will change when the dragon comes to town.

I'm just wondering what the price of a new Dragon sensor Epic will be when those are being produced. Will RED continue to sell the MX sensor version at the current price and a Dragon sensor version at the same price as an upgrade will cost current Epic X and Scarlet X owners? Today is the last day to make a thousands-dollar decision based on many unknowns.

Elsie, that's exactly what Red did with the M-MX transition, so it's reasonable to expect they'd do the same now.

I hope Red doesn't output a 6K + with Dragon--I hope they oversample more to generate a better 4K / 5K image. The image is fantastic now, but colorimetry, dynamic range and low light performance can always improve.

Mark, I agree with your OP 100%. There is no need to upgrade an Epic-x for at least Five years. The Epic-X, if you're lucky enough to have one, will be making Oscar winning movies well after 2017. As long as we have light bulbs. What we desperately need now is software.

The Dragon Sensor will only mean better colorimetry and dynamic range.

I will be happy to sign up and apply it to my craft of filmmaking. I already have done it with the Epic and the results are fantastic -one great looking scene after another (bright light, low light, no light). RAW, Redcode and RCXPro are the way to make a film, and if you are a true artist you want to be able to use the best tools available...within your budget.
