OK, 34.5mm image circle for Dragon 6K.

What are folks thinking about using for glass? Do you think you'll be shooting more at 5K?

And, RED guys, do we have a confirmation of the image circle needed for 5K on Dragon? Is it the same as 5K on Epic MX?

RPPs! I guess the 18mm won't cover, as I see a slight vignette on 5K FF on M-X, but the rest should be good for 6K.

Here's an old post by Matt Duclos:
I'm sure someone at RED will correct me if I'm wrong, during testing I found these image circles for RPPs.

25mm - 34mm dia.
35mm - 36mm dia.
50mm - 41mm dia.
85mm - 43mm+dia.
100mm - 43mm+dia.

I'll have to stick with something full frame like CP.2s until Zeiss does a redesign on the UPs to cover full frame, in which case, I'll buy those.

Although I do imagine 5K will be what I shoot with more. I believe I remember hearing on here that 5k on Dragon is going to be smaller than 5k now so we'll be able to shoot with more lenses than we do now in terms of wider lenses that don't quite cover 5k currently.

That's helpful thanks; RED specify a 32mm image circle for all the primes (except 30mm for the 300), but measured image circles beat specified ones :-)

I'd *really* like to know the image circle needed for 5K on Dragon; I just spoke to my rep, Dan Baum, and he hasn't seen that info anywhere.

If anyone is at NAB and reading this, do me a big favor? Grab Jarred or Graeme or someone and ask about the 5K image circle?

Thanks! :-)

Grab me instead!

Dragon 5K can essentially be considered Full Aperture S35 3-perf. Damn near all S35 lenses should be compatible.

surely you do not need Jarred or Gramene to multiply 34.5mm by five and divide by six: 28.75mm :)

Leica Summilux-C covers 34mm even at the widest.

Anyone attending NAB, please just confirm this info!!!

Very helpful. Thanks!

Looks like RPP 18mm (for instance) which did vignette slightly on Epic MX at 5K, will be fine on Dragon.

At 5K yes. 6K Full it won't cover. There was mention of a 5.5K resolution at one point, however, I don't know if that's still in the cards. I'll poke around tomorrow.

Sorry yes should have clarified.

RPP 18mm: problem at 5K on Epic MX, no problem at 5K on Dragon.

This is yet another good reason to go for Dragon; greater lens choice at 5K :-)

Now, any chance we can get a camera offering 4K at S16 coverage....?
