  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DRAGON CARBON + Game of Thrones

Pimp my Red style.
Did you try to make it with forged carbon technology?

Hi Jarred
Does this affect the heat dissipation characteristics of the body in any meaningful way?
Thanks
Dewald Aukema

This also interest me. I prefer function before fashion.

For more geek fun you can use texalium, fibers covered with hologram or just some fancy glitters in resin or gelcoat ;)

If only this baby was released years ago, my neck would be in a much better shape!! :-)

Skydiving and BASE jumping with 35mm and even Vistavision and IMAX cameras = painful.

Bring it on Red! This is like a dream for our upcoming project!

I can only say...."Fuck yeah!". This is a big step towards making EPIC "THE" camera of choice for a lot of productions, especially hand-held/action stuff. Any weight-saving on the body is good in my book and I know several people who will step up and go for these new bodies.

Yeah, that thing rocks. Thats a great step to make EPIC even more perfect. I guess i just have found something new to dream about and save money for. ;)

RED Dragon on GoT is fantastic too, congratulations for that.

This got me to thinking... are there any lenses with carbon fiber housings? Or, maybe titanium would be better?

Fabulous looking camera - yet another differentiator to make those with power sit up an notice.

Beryllium: I thought the expertise of (I presume) casting Beryllium into complex shapes was mostly in the US.

Some interesting research going on - on the adding of arsenic to magnesium to make it corrosion resistant...

'Waiting for the Future: I guess when the 14nm ASICs make their way out the labs, and SoC'ing larger blocks of RED number crunching is possible, we'll end up with fewer boards needing less power. Might be a long time .. maybe 3D printed Graphene will roll out first?

Would buying a magnesium machined PL mount - to equipe a "regular" Epic-X - be an option?

As someone pointed out already, you can feel a great the difference just by changing from PL to Nikkon of Canon mount. This few grammes could be enjoyed by some quite users if it was possible to produce this mounts in an adequate price range - the latest needed to be determine, and I'm obviously no expert: but I don't think people would fall for it, if it was to coast a lot more than Titanium PL.

Then that means you really need lightweight, and I assume you go for the full body.

Anyway, just curious about this possible option :)

No Carbon Scarlets... The economies don't really align on that. The magnesium is way lighter than Titanium.. but incredibly complicated to machine ( it likes to explode )

now only if you could rig those cameras to explode if it is ever stolen hehehe:-P

I think I need to cancel my vacation this year...

Big deal Game of Thrones switching from Arri to Epic Dragon. Is this for all principal photography or just VFX?

Not only is it the most powerful, but it is now the sexiest looking camera in existence!

I could fork out $50K or just do a few more curls to build my biceps, hmm. Reminds me of my biking buddies who obsess over the weight of their bikes, spend thousands to drop a pound or two even though they themselves are 25lbs. over weight. Still the CF Epic is cool, I'd get one too if I could afford it.
