  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DRAGON CARBON + Game of Thrones

That is awesome!

I feel obligated to ask, although I feel I'll have to wait til after IBC to get an answer. Will we see anything like this for the Scarlet? Please?

Will the magnesium mounts be available for purchase separately/ are they much lighter than their titanium counterparts?

No Carbon Scarlets... The economies don't really align on that. The magnesium is way lighter than Titanium.. but incredibly complicated to machine ( it likes to explode )

They must have designed the Pinto to use magnesium. It explains so much.

I was always thinking it would cool to see a real carbon fiber Epic, and would it be possible.
It's awesome to see the push for more materials like this, as if the camera is a spaceship, race car, pro bike, and so on.
I hope we can get the parts if we don't want/afford a full out one.

This really reminds me of the Oakley Elite.

Keep this push going!

I was going to mention something about those fine corners and details. Not too common to see formed carbon fiber work at that level.

Yeah we tried some experimentation wit Lenses shells in Magnesium, and they would literally catch on fire... ;)

Oh yeah. Magnesium burns super fast and hot. But for those who don't know much about it... It's completely safe for something like this, so don't start worrying that it'll spontaneously combust if you shoot on a hot day :)

I received my RED nikon mount today, and put on some of my old lenses on it ... is super light compared to my PL system(heaviest thing with this setup is probably the 9 inch touch screen - carbon fiber touch screen would be awesome ). btw ... in the old days I worked on Beryllium housings, this Carbon Fiber Dragon is a whole step up in coolness.

Beryllium was on the table for awhile.. Can't machine that in California though anymore I am afraid. All sorts of heath issues with Beryllium.

Probably a good time to give a nod to the incredible talent in our machine shop that create the Carbon Dragons one by one, Valiket, Mcnutt and Weingartner. Those guys are masters to have the skills needed to be able to pull this off.

Game of Thrones, Dragon, Carbon well done guys...

OK, can someone please help me find the words to explain to my wife that to get the Carbon Dragon Epic and save a pound of weight will be a much better upgrade path than just getting the Dragon sensor...

Man Jarred, couldn't you wait until we at least got through the Dragon upgrade dog house...

Seriously RED, so super cool, and I cant even start to think of how Im going to get one, all smiles, and maybe just one more hunk of love from RED that we can upgrade our present Epics to the Carbon...Please oh Please Oh please....pretty please... Ive got money for you he he he.....

I'd love to see some videos on how all the cool stuff is made. Are tours still on the table?

Jarred,

How about a carbon version with textured rubberized coating and all black screws and mounts. Call it the "Stealth Dragon".

It would also help give a better grip and prevent slipping out of hands. Unless of course you're drunk...

Carbon Dragon is AMAZING!!!!
