Dear friends indeed i found out that the Alura lightweight don't work, but tested the 19-90 Fujinon cabrio and that works, i can see it on my tough monitor BUT when i look in Redcine X i see a iris and a lens mm, but it does not change with the changing of zoom or distance as i recorded the test! Is there a other way to read the metadata? Or a program? Edit programe etc Help needed i have a complex greenscreenshoot upcoming starting second of december!

At the moment the only data accessible from the R3D clip are values when you started recording.

Hopefully in the future we will be able to extract this information frame by frame.

I am working on adding extensive metadata logging in my REDLink apps but that is not enabled yet and will mostly be helpful as a guide for VFX shots as the timecode data via RCP is not frame accurate.

Lots of users have been requesting and waiting for a direct R3D reading of those values so there is a chance one day it will be there :-)

It's really fun when they zoom in on a slate, hit record, then zoom back out and start filming. Then even that often mostly useless starting frame meta data is also wrong. :P

The current state of r3d meta data recording made my decision to buy a dumb PL mount for $2,000 less pretty easy.

As I said the logging of lens data will come soon but is not enabled yet in iOS app...

Might happen sooner on the OS X version as I already have a logging system in place that I can update easily.
Also OS X app can be customized more easily than the iOS one that needs to be re-submitted to Apple every time...

Will email you asap see if I can do something for mid december...
feel free to send an email to contact(at)foolcolor(dot)net if you need any help to setup the app but it's pretty easy and straight forward (the iOS app does contain several help pages with shortcuts etc)

This is great to know. I wrongly assumed that i/data would be dynamic, recording any changing lens data as the shot progressed. Won't help us much in its current iteration for VFX work -- unless we stick with primes, I suppose. I have a feeling RED is working on this one -- it's too obvious.

Mikael, don't stop what you're doing. Let's see who gets there first. :)

Best,

E

How is everyone getting metadata from the Cabrio? I seem to be having trouble... any suggestions? I have the latest firmware installed on Dragon (5.3.29) and the 19-90mm Cabrio with side grip and a P-tap power cable powering the lens. motors work, but when I try to get any data from the lens it's blank on the camera and in Redcine v33. Please help and thank you.
