  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Double Dragon....

100% certain it will not be cheaper. The next rocket will cost us almost 2x as much to make.

Someone forgot to tell the FPGA community that things are supposed to be getting cheaper :)

I know the Rocket is a great investment and will more than pay for itself for most RED owners. Since getting my Scarlet about a year ago, I'm really starting to see the value in the Rocket, especially with all of the increasing jobs I'm getting with the camera. So, I'm hoping to pick one up with an enclosure ASAP.

My question for you, Jarred, is: will there be an trade in/upgrade path when this new RED Rocket comes out?

We are testing a bunch of glass right now. The punchline is the industry seems to be going the right way for coverage.

Most of the newest lenses hitting the market have massive image circles that love the Dragon, but even some of the old lenses surprisingly cover 6K.

Of course "coverage" and "resolution/transmission fall off" need to be noted as two different things.

Good to hear Jarred, and of course I'll be gladly giving a hand with those tests once we get our Epic Dragonized... ;)

I just hope our Leica Cine primes don't disappoint me, or I'll go back to MP's... ;)

Does the bigger sensor mean we're going to have to modify lenses again like we did with the Epic? Because it's quite an expensive burden to do so. We still don't have all of our lenses modified yet for the Epic as it is.

I have 2 Rockets all have been handled with great care in a clean post-production environment. One is working fine, the other is recognized by the computer sometimes, but won't accelerate playback and gives all kinds of errors when asked to do what it is intended to do. Honestly, its only a year old and is taking a crap on us. There are many other instances of this as well in and around the community which makes people/businesses gun shy on purchasing another card and or having to repair a brand new card which has never been moved nor mistreated in any way. So, they are great at what they do when they work but i think its been proven and fair to say that they are a risky purchase at best. I think there needs to be a better warranty program for these cards (since we are on the subject ie 3 years etc.) Offer me that and i'd consider not only purchasing a few more but getting this busted one repaired. 3K for repair and no long term warranty is a turn off. Just sayin.
Dragon looks great BTW.
I would be living under a rock or pretty insincere if I didn't acknowledge that this is one of the pitfalls with Rockets and also plays into the perception of the card. I almost never remove mine from the MP but others I know have had issues with them being fragile. What I can't say though is that I was there to see how they were being handled and whether static was an issue. Not everyone is careful about using anti-static wrist straps and such. The only thing I can recommend is handling them with great care and making sure to follow the instructions very carefully when updating. In the case of Mike Burton, neither one of those would be an issue, so I think it lends to the idea that there are some issues.

Important question for future buyer of the RED EPIC...Will it be possible to buy it directly when the dragon is gonna be available or US, new buyer will have to wait for the first owner to go threw the upgrade program? Please answer to me about that?

Er.... huh?

When you have $10K or more invested in these things you'd like them / expect for them to last longer than a year. If I had it for 5 years I would chalk it up to old age. When if there is a better warranty solution I'll consider repair/replacement but for the time being its not worth the uncertainty.

The Ale If you want to you can create a RMD file in RCP-X that you can load into the camera and get the monitor tap to mimic the Alexa "look" pretty closely - #19

Blair,

I would be very interested if anyone was willing to post a RMD file created in RCP-X that does mimic the Alexa look?

These still are pretty amazing. This makes me really excited for the things in the future.

Scarlet upgrade path, the projector, and Dragon by itself.

I thought I wouldn't be able to get excited like I was when we were all waiting for still from the Epic.

Nope, I'm really excited about this and it feels like it did 3 years ago.

This is awesome.

I understand that the testing is in the early phases, but how well will footage generated by Dragon cut with Epic-X... or even the Red ONE?

I ask because some of us have long term project in the works and will be mixing sensors.

Have to ask... what lenses? And what modifications?

Sorry if it's been answered but what's the native ISO of the Dragon ?

Not sure they are there yet for specifics. Only heard "a couple stops better than current" which would put it at 1280 or so. That would work for me.
