It could be a camera that your girlfriend easily use and cary it in a "pocket" of her bag.

Scarlett Johansson and her LV bag where she hides a brand new RED camera till NAB 2008.

why do they make such a big secret out of it when it won't be anything like the big camera?

Becasue that's what they do.. call it their corporate culture.

And we may need to clear something up, Jim insists that it's a pocket camera, but his pockets are considerably deeper than most. If that logic holds true, it could easily be twice the size of the Red One. Just food for thought.

Scarlet is not a substitute for the RED ONE. It will never have features close to the RED ONE. We will NOT take reservations for Scarlet. And please remember that the key word for Scarlet is "Pocket".

Jim

" Scarlet " I guess will be the Pocket RED camera to co-used the CF card based storge same as RED one to record up to 2K RED Code images as
a " Making of RED one " Digital Films Camera for all RED one Director in the shooting location.

We can do 2K to 1080p trailers of the REAL RED ONE images on the WEB more attractive, and don't forget our Computer Monitor size is up to 30" 1920 x 1080 is normal for any 20 -24 ".

I am a dreamer but I am not the only one on RED earth.

Ok, don't ask me 'cause I will not answer questions. In fact I might as well disappear from the board after this, but I've gotten access to a Scarlet prototype and I wanted to return something to this community that has given so much to me.

Compare prices of the present pocket video cameras at

Pocket camcorder>>>

But RED Scarlet should be something more advanced and never seen before that cannot be compared with all of that CRAPCORDERS.

That is hidden in the Scarlett Johannson's LV bag.

She is gonna open her LV bag, take RED "Scarlet" camera out of it and premiere this BEAUTY for the first time to the world.

It could be sort of a big RED SCARLET(T)'s stage show at NAB 2008 in Las Vegas.

Could it be that Scarlet will need the Red One to work? Like these Iconix cameras (which are great, btw) that need some kind of recorder. That's what I seem to understand from Jim's post. It would explain why no reservations would be necessary: only Red One owners would be able to use it anyway.

what is that crank for?

my current pocket cam is an HV20 or an HV10, so something in that size...so i am guessing that this does away with the interchangeable lens mount. as long as it intercuts beautifully with my RED ONEs and has manual controls, i will be thrilled.

just sensor enclosed in a flatbox with lens mount and data output connector (gigaether/esata) just like SI-2K mini, but in Red style

I also think it's going to be an "Iconix" type of lens, sensor & cf card recorder. This will be the "professional pocket cam" they speak of that would be nice for the red skydivers (helmet cam) and many, many other types of specialty work.

I do not think they would make this so it needs the RED One to control or record...this wouldn't make sense. It wouldn't help in many cases where you need to stick a camera in a funny place.

I said this in another posting, but if you think about what RED has done that is MOST revolutionary, I think it's the sensor and the codec...the ability to put these HUGE images onto a very small disk. So, it would not be difficult for them to do this with some sort of Iconix like camera, I think.

I guessed it. Do I get my Red One free now as a prize? (I'm actually 2100ish...don't even know.)

Kevin

I think many people already guessed that. I guessed it. Everyone is in denial. But it's alright.

Those poor souls over at Iconix have no idea what's about to happen, do they?

A RED "helmetcam" would destroy them.

Sony and the others have been price gouging for years, so screw them.

But, those Iconix folks and their little camera that could....I almost feel bad for them.

---------------------

Actually, I think Scarlet will be a bit bigger, if only to accommodate a CF card slot and XLR audio inputs. But maybe one mini-XLR would be enough for many applications. And I'm cool with no attached viewing system....choose between an LCD or EVF for your needs, or run an HDMI cable to an HDTV. Basically I'm hoping for something halfway between an Iconix and a DVX in terms of size, but shooting 2k up to 60fps.

I remember reading that back when Kodak was trying to figure out what size would work for the Pocket Instamatic (remember those? I'm dating myself), they had employees carry around different-sized pieces of wood in their pocket (or purse) in order to determine what size and shape people would feel most comfortable carrying around. After all, there's nothing more useless than a pocket camera that gets left at home because it doesn't fit in any pocket.
