I'm planning on buying a new Epic soon, I looked around but couldn't find an answer.
Does A-Box pass Phantom power to a mic, such as NTG-3?
If it doesn't, would I need a mini xlr to xlr cable for phantom power?

Does it? I didn´t get that to work, but I only tried it ones. I should try it again. Any setting I´m not aware of maybe?

I use a Senn 416 shotgun mic with an A box on my Scarlet all the time... phantom power works like a charm.

You need to turn on the phantom power in the audio settings.

That's great! Thanks guys :)

I use it with my scarlet and ntg 2 all the time no prob.

You might want to consider a pre amp cos levels are a bit low. And its not always a good idea to pump it up a lot in camera.

What pre amp would you recommend?

If you have some money to invest go with the sound devices. It will serve you well into the future. You can very accurately monitor audio from it as well. It is a one time investement for even when you buy a complete audio recording kitl.

I can't find phantom power under the audio settings. Can you please tell me how I get to them?

The early Epic audio boards need upgrading to allow phantom power as an option - see Page 180 fo the Red Epic Operation Guide.

The menu selection is Settings > Audio/Video > Audio Channels > Mode > Select UNBALANCED / BAL./48V / BALANCED

Thank you so much. Feel like an idiot. I never looked under audio channels, only audio. Works perfectly now
