News from Cool Lights

LED1200BackpackFrontCm.jpg

Will definitely order some lights later for sure...but man I don't dig the color/style of this bag. Seriously, no offense..just telling you like it is. My friend who bought LEDs from you as well had the same comment.

For US orders, please consider keeping it black.

I disagree, I think everything at the moment is grey, black, uniform, corporate, boring,
this is a nice splash of color. If I see another Corporate looking website with a safe look about it I'm going to scream !
By the way this is a great looking light Richard, will be ordering soon !

To each his own. I completely respect everyone else's opinion. Everyone has different taste.

For me, I want to make fashion statements with my clothes..but when it comes to pro gear and working in a professional environment, I don't mind being considered "boring." I personally wouldn't be caught dead bringing that colored bag to set. but this is just me.

Ketch - black bag thumbs up
Tonaci - black bag thumbs up

do we need to take a bag color vote? hehe

ah well, even with the colored bag that I don't like, I will of course still want the light regardless.

Liam,

Very sturdy. And yes in a Pelican it will withstand airline travel. Don't let the polycarbonate fool you. Its double wall corrugated, 6mm thick and all the edges and corners have aluminum extrusions on them to protect. Blunt objects and blows tend to bounce off the plastic. Plus the plastic doesn't bear any weight. There is an aluminum skeleton inside that bears all the weight of the MAM (lollipop) mount. This kind of architecture of the fixture has been tested and perfected well during the last three years on some other of our fixture lines and it holds up.

Great, I've got a couple of jobs coming up that these are well suited for.

Thanks Richard, I'll be in touch soon with an order.

Absolutel Tonaci - I agree everybody's got different tastes, maybe Richard will produce two types of bags.
Personally I like the color bag. At the moment I have so many Black Bags I look like Johnny Cash on tour. Regardless the bag look pretty sturdy which is all that matters.

What would be the draw for the daylight over the bi-color? Is this purely a monetary matter or is there something else I'm missing?

My unscientific explanantion:

Daylight = more affordable, Lower CRI (might need minus green filter = slightly lower output)

Bicolour = Higher CRI (no need for minus green filter = no loss of output)

What Miltos said is a pretty good explanation. The real cost difference is mainly in labor. The bi-color panels have to be hand inserted because they are in an alternating pattern on each row: low color, high color, low color, etc. Our assembler's insertion machine isn't capable of that kind of insertion so they have to be hand inserted to do it right. Its worth it. You get a better color mixture that way rather than having all one row as low color temp, the next row as high color temp, etc. which is the way many of the other bi-color panels I've seen do it.

We'll look into a black bag option for the backpack as well. I call that pattern in the pictures "digital camouflage".

Hi Richard,

Are the "Barn Doors" on this made out of the same material as the portable flo models? Specifically are is the flexible material and the way it is attached to the unit the same.

Thanks, and all the best,

Steve

Hi Stephen,

The attachment is similar but the material is different. A new silicone material we use now more flexible and durable. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the info Richard. (and Miltos) I just didn't know if there was some reason someone would want the daylight if budgetary constraints weren't an issue. I guess the price difference is a little bit bigger at the normal rates, though.

I also forgot to mention that there are two dimmers as well among other things that differentiate them. You might choose the daylight version simply because you have other similar daylight fixtures and want them all as close to each other as possible.
