There is already a thread but just to make sure all OSX redusers know:

If you install 10.13.2, OpenCL is not working with R3D files and every rendering is done by processor and extremely slow (tested on latest Premiere Pro, Red Cine-X and DaVinci Resolve).
Only a downgrade back to 10.13.1 helps. 10.13.3beta doesn't fix tis issue. If you have 10.3.2 installed and no backup available send me a pm and I can forward you a 10.13.1 image with boot drive instruction.

Yikes, good to know... I had an issue last week jumping to High Sierra, where all my server drivers got booted... I learned a big lesson that day, when upgrading the operating system, always create a backup of the previous system in case you have to jump back...

Yep, the same thing happened to me - 12 core (2013) Mac Pro with FirePro D700 GPUs suddenly ignored the GPUs while playing R3D files after installing High Sierra. Unfortunately for me, I cannot revert to an older version of the OS for a bunch of reasons, so I guess I will have to wait. Luckily I have an identical system at another location that hasn't been upgraded, so I can use that for now.

Looking forward to a fix though!

If your using Da Vinci Resolve and your r3d clips are black there is a work around to make the clips show up! In Preferences under Camera Raw change Raw profile to RED and under Project Settings set Blend Type to Simple that should make the clips show up. It still uses the CPU to render but at least it works until there is a fix.

Open CL is working perfectly for me in 10.13.2 on my 5,1 MP. With a 2.66 12-core w/ 1070 GTX Im getting buttery smooth playback in RCX, PP, & Resolve @ 1/4 res on 8k Helium clips. Half res seems to work fine in PP I've noticed also, but not as well in the other apps.

Since you got Nvidia graphics, are you not working with CUDA? It should be only a OpenCL problem afain.

Rendering Time in Redcine exploded!!!

I have upgraded to 10.13.2 today.

9 seconds of 6k-Footage from my Weapon took almost 6 Minutes to render it out in Apple ProRes.

Unfortunately I did the upgrade, got a message that my NVIDIA CUDA driver needs to be updated. However, the CUDA preferences states that no newer driver is available.... and my back up is too old to downgrade back to. Been slogging through a project in Davinic.

Does this seem like it's affecting Media Encoder? I was having the same terrible issues with Premiere, painfully long render times, but on a quick test today kicking something out to Encoder, it felt like it was a bit faster. Or is that just wishful thinking?

It may be wishful thinking. I noticed your post today and thought I would give it (Media Encoder) a try, but it took a VERY long time to transcode. Unfortunately, it seems like this problem is only affecting a relatively small number of users, so it may not be resolved anytime soon. It's a serious problem for me, so I hope that I'm wrong and a fix is about to be released.

Does anyone has better luck with the iMac Pro? The iMac Pro is shipping with High Sierra. The Apple rep told me that the iMac Pro requires the High Sierra to run. This means do downgrading to OSX Sierra, etc. I'm about to receive mine in 2 days.

Sadly, the iMac Pro probably won't run on anything lower than 10.13.2 - so you're kind of stuck with the OpenCL update / issue. Because this is widespread - I do also hope that Black Magic is pushing Apple due to Resolve's issues, and I also hope RED is using their Apple ties to connect back. Would love to see this resolved in 10.13.3, but have a feeling it might be in the next update (as it seems like 10.13.3 will be releasing this or next week).

EDIT: The other forum is reporting that the iMac Pro is not affected. It’s only AMD graphics pre Vega.

macOS 10.3.3 just dropped. Anybody care to check this bug in the final release?

Installed 10.13.3

No change. r3d still a slideshow

Sigh, ready for my export times to be back to normal. Here's to hoping for the next point release - either that or something RED can recode on their end with the new implementation of OpenCL. Wondering if it's just certain calls that have changed.

Installed 10.13.3

I just turned off FAST Graphics switching in 10.13.3, rebooted and rendering ProRes HQ out of Final Cut 10.4 seems faster. I could be wrong.

UPDATE: not faster, 30 min 4K DCI ProRes took 3 hours 15 min. from FCPX 10.4. Need to get back to Sierra (somehow) to test again.

Off topic update: APFS doesn’t support block-level restores, so any Carbon Copy Cloner image of an APFS volume will not restore using the RESTORE tab in Disk Utility, even after a scan. Fortunately, I had a clean install of 10.12.6 backup from 2 months ago, and upgraded that to an HFS+ 10.13 High Sierra as follows:

/Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app --agreetolicense --converttoapfs NO --nointeraction

which gives you an High Sierra on HFS+ :-)

As far as I understand, you just need to make it back down to High Sierra 10.13.1.
