  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do NOT upgrade to OSX 10.13.2 - OpenCL issue

I made it back to 10.13.0 Indeed, Prores renders are more than 2X faster than 10.13.2 or 10.13.3

Sigh, I really don't want to have to downgrade as I have ProTools finally running flawlessly. Although - that speed sounds fantastic to have back again. There's really no good balance here. :001_unsure:

10.13.4 public beta tester just released this morning. 11 minute clip in RCX 6k R3D processing to 4k 4444 which took 12+ hours to process on 10.13.3 now takes 20 minutes!

Really hoping this is the fix everyone is looking for!

Updated 10.13.4 on my 2013 trash can and no improvement. I guess it's time to go back . Talked to mac support guy recently and he said that the os would not be supported for them much longer. He also said the new IMac pros were running a different a different OS that the trash cans would not be able to run.
So, it looks like the end of the road.
Thanks,
Tim

Wow, and this is still a current model for sale on their site!

For what it's worth I just conducted a quick and dirty unscientific test and found that my trashcan (8 core, d500) on 10.13.3 took 3:05 to transcode a 6 second 8k file to a 1080p mp4. On 10.13.4 it took only 1 minute. A 8k Prores 4444 XQ export only took 23 seconds. Forgot to try that before I upgraded...

For me at least, I'm showing a huge increase in performance for my trashcan on 10.13.4
